Mhh I dont see any adventure drought, it is just that they are download
titles nowadays.
You forgot the mention, Sherlock Holmes Crimes and Punishments which
came out recently. The vanishing of Ethan Carter. Then there is Wadjet
Eye games, which produces adventure games on a regular base. Also Bill
Tiller has brought out a new adventure game, the Perils of Man.
Then there is still Telltale games with their episodic games.

Yes Annie, it used to be a very popular adventure games group here but
nobody much comes here now. I drop by once in a while. Not many adventure
games have been released for quite a while except one here and there, but
Tesla Effect a new Tex Murphy adventure game just came out -I think I will
get it. I like Tex Murphy games like Pandora Directive is my favourite. But
most games now are download, instead of going to the store to buy one in a
box like I used to. Most stores in Toronto where I am, don't have any
adventure games, not PC games at least. Dreamfall Chapters is another
adventure game which will be released next month or maybe end of Oct. so
that is good. Maybe more adventure games will come back into style again
like they used to be.

Agreed. Actually, all games are download titles now, except for a few
of the highest-budget titles (mostly on consoles).

Adventure games are fine. Usenet is dead.

(The corpse hasn't stopped twitching yet, but it's dead.)

I should have said there I didn't see any adventure games I would be
interested in except maybe the Sherlock Holmes game you mention above. I
bought several of them when they still sold them in stores where I am - such
as Sherlock Nemesis, Jack the Ripper, The silver Earring, The Awakened. I
think they had the same actor playing Sherlock and I liked his acting, plus
the same Watson who I liked. I don't think Sherlock Holmes Testament game
was the same actor playing Sherlock. maybe it was ok, I havent played it. I
don't care for episodic games. But yes, you have to download all games now
and takes a long time to download as I don't have a really fast speed
package and too expensive to get a faster speed..

Mary, I do remember you from waaay back! Sorry, I don't remember the screen name I used back then, but I posted a lot just like you did.

Playing Tesla Effect now and soon the re-mastered GK1.

So, to those of you left here, do you go to any sites in particular to see what adventure games are coming out? I still come here! LOL! Barely any life in this group but I still get a 'heads-up' on a game or two. And Steam

I totally forgot about this website! THANKS!

Now, if only I can get Grandma's place to show up on my GK1 map. UGH! After much trying and talking to Grace, etc, it's still not showing up. I know she doesn't live in the French Quarter but that seems like my only map option. I've played this game several times so either something is amiss with the game or my brain! :-P Ha!

Thanks again for the website reminder, Werner... :)

Too bad you can't remember your screen name. I would probably
remember you. There used to be lots of posters on this group. I remember
many of them. I remember BS guy who liked Broken sword. I think he was
Irish.

I wasn't on the Internet till around 1998, but got a computer in 1990 and
started to play adventure games and played a lot of them since then.I've
played quite a few
games in the 2000's also and a few since. I used to go on a game hint group
on local BBS boards in the early to early 90's before the Internet started
to become more available to home computer users in the later 90's where I
live.

>Playing Tesla Effect now and soon the re-mastered GK1.

I am playing Tesla Effect now, and there are a few walkthroughs, but none of
them can get me unstuck
on a puzzle not that far from the start of the game. a lot of the stores are
the same as Pandora directive
on Chandler St. and some characters are there who were on Pandora. Louie
looks a lot different -
its a long time since Pandora was released. I havent seen any of the others
yet. I don't like the interface
in the game. In my opinion it is more complicated to get around than it
needs to be.I use keyboard and mouse.
I can't remember if I used the keyboard in Pandora.

You could check www.gameboomers.com - I go there sometimes and look around.
Its a good website which is up to date with information about the latest
adventure games and other types of games and lists upcoming games..

Yes, Mary, I'm sure you'd remember me. :) The only other name that comes to mind was Rik who used to post a lot.

I'm playing Tesla but only when my daughter is here. Very clunky interface! There are hints included in the game but they aren't always terribly helpful.

I'm enjoying the re-mastered GK1 but find myself getting stuck. The hints made it sound like the Grandma's house comes up on Day 1 but it didn't show until Day 4. Now, I KNOW I should be buying a mask for $100 but the guy won't sell it to me. Plus a place to have jewelry made isn't showing now. (sigh) This should be easier! :) Played it many times back in the 90's. Plus, I believe I have played over 200 adventure games so I sorta know what I

Mhh I did not find the interface to be clunky at all, it is a standard
WSAD interface which nowadays is standard for first person games,
The hints sometimes could be better indeed.

What is WSAD? Maybe you've played more games with that kind of interface.

I don't remember Rik. I am usually good at names, but I would have to think
about it. It's been quite a while now since it was busy here. Off the top I
remember Jenny, Barbara from Holland, Paula, Mick.

>I'm playing Tesla but only when my daughter is here. Very clunky

"Clunky" is a good word for the interface. It took me a while to get used to
but I still have to stop and think what place I should click on. I don't
know why they made it that way. I didn't find the hints in the game very
helpful either I also find the keyboard and mouse awkward. I've used them in
games before and I get used to it as game progresses but doesn't mean I like
it :).

I finally solved the puzzle I was stuck on. It took a lot of patience and
repetition. If it takes me a long time to solve a puzzle or I find it too
difficult I don't always have patience even with a walkthrough. I used to
have a lot more patience when
first played adventure games in 1990. Computer games were new to me then and
I was younger :)..

I played it several times too but not for a long time. I didnt get it. How
different is it from GK1? I liked GK2 and 3 better, but GK1 was quite good
too. I too probably played at least 200 adventure games and a few
adventure/action.

It's not much different at all but the graphics are beautiful, I like New Orleans, and anything with Gabriel K in it. :) I'm enjoying it very much...

Yes, I remember Jenny. Rik was there ALL the time and was very helpful but he opted out eventually because it became too time-consuming for him.

Regarding Tesla, I hate having to use both the keyboard and the mouse, otherwise I can deal with the interface okay.

I did! GK2 was full motion video, as was 3, if I remember correctly. Played #2 a couple times also.

I still don't remember Rik.Maybe he didnt post for long.

When did you start posting here, was it around 1998 around the time I
started posting here? I guess you haven't posted here for quite a while.
Not many people posting here now. I've still dropped in here and post once
in a while, but not many posts here. Usenet is not what it once was, but
still some active groups..

The interface still slows me down., but I guess I will have to get used to
it.

Maybe sometime you will remember your old alias here and I might remember
you :>)

GK2 was done in full motion video. Point and click. As you will recall, the
game had a lot of parts based loosely on historical events like the castle
built by King Ludwig and the paintings in Singer's Hall in GK2 were very
interesting.

GK3 was done differently in 3D graphics engine. Jane Jensen did a lot of
research for the GK games. They were all good games with interesting stories
though a lot of people didn't like the timed sequence in GK2 -neither did
I - you probably remember it. I played GK2 and GK3 quite a few times. They
are high on my list of faves.

WASD is the standard pc control scheme for first person 3d games. It has
the advantage of allowing fast movement and very fluid viewport
adjustments with the mouse.
The idea is to use the mouse for everything aim wise and use the keys
WSAD for movement. The Mouse buttons are for the respective actions
reserved.
This interface has been the defacto standard in first person games for
15-20 years.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arrow_keys check out the section about WASD.

You have explained it quite well. I have played several games with
mouse/arrow but I find it awkward to use the arrow keys especially when
going up a ladder in a game and turning left or right. it seems clumsy to me
to maneuvre
my way around. as opposed to point and click where you use only use the
mouse.
I think Pandora Directive was one of the first games to use "real time 3D
graphics"
as they described it. Most of my games through the years have been point and
click
and I am not as used to games with 3D graphics but I have played some good
games
with 3D graphics through the years.

Yes, GK2 was indeed FMV, and to be exact, locations were based
on real-life photographs to an astonishing degree. IIRC only thing
they deliberately changed were in fact the pictures in the Singers'
Hall -in real life, Neuschwanstein hall pictures do *not* depict
Engelhart story /nor opera :)

Also, you don't find the hunting club at that address, nor there is
Ûbergrau's lawyer's office at that door on Marienplatz. Both are btw
valid and existing Munich locations, I have visited both doorways :)
(although in German addresses, you write first the street, then number
whereas in the game they use american "#number, street"-notation,
so for example the hunting club's correct address would be
DienerstraBe 42, not the other way around. OK, Jane Jensen used
also a 555-xxxx telephone number which in Germany would be
not-movie number but actual one, despite incorrect notation used)
(Oh yes, the hunting club doorway is not numbered at all #42 but
something else. I forgot what, but which right now isn't really
important) :)

But as far as the other locations go, pretty much all of them were
real-life - Ludwig museum was recreated to great detail, as was
Altöttingen church, Ludwig's memorial chapel and of course the castle.
Even Gabriel's castle was real-life, although that castle's indoor
rooms were in fact done on sets.

There are a few videos on Youtube in which posters have hunted
down (pun intended:) shooting locations and compared them with
game depictions. Search on Youtube with "Gabriel Knight location tour"

I liked the GK3 engine, alhtough general consensus at the time was
rather negative. It was very creative design, with freely zoomable
camera, independent of the characters' movements and actions - and
that very design allowed huge number of simultaneous things to happen
which was major contributing factor to the utter complexity of
character action and -interaction in the game.
Basically, at any given time, any character you could find would be
doing *something* which may have been important, or contribute
to the story - or then maybe nothing interesting at all. In order
to score top points, you really had to replay the sequences, watch
other character actions, and try to guess which were important and
which were just red herrings. Of course, you could finish the game
only playing and watching the mail couple's actions, but you would
miss a substantial number of indirect clues explaining the story
details and background logic.

ALso GK3 has "location tour" videos available on Youtube. Have fun
watching (and hunting) :) !!

Rudi.

I am a huge fan, and long-time veteran, of Tex Murphy franchise. I got
UAKM when it first got out, played and replayed it again to find out
all conversation paths etc. Then re-got it from GOG about 2 years back
out of sheer nostalgia.

Now, Tesla Effect raised mixed feelings in me. It is as it consists of
two absolutely unrelated games, of which first half is true Tex legacy
by having to walk up and down the Home Street, going from store to
store guessing which of the characters might have a new topic to ask;
and then zooming off to new location only to return to Chandler Avenue
a few hours later to do it all over again... Don't get me wrong,
that's what I wanted and that's the Tex game I payed for.. but that's
how gameplay works in the first half of the game.

Then when you enter the research facility, it is really whole another
game, really 1st person sneaker/pixel hunting/trap avoiding adventure.
While textures are very handsome, you could say impressive, I still
got the impression that they basically reused the programming from
Pandora Directive's Alcatraz section, only revamped to a degree
and nothing really new.

SPOILER ALERT: Next two chapters reveals plot elements so skip
ahead if you don't want to be spoiled.

Now, that being said, I go deeper into the game. First half of the
game you are supposed to find out what happened to you and
Chelsea, and even figuring out you have amnesia and have
lost 7 years, what happened during those years, even try
to free yourself from a murder charge. Quite a bunch I'd say.

However the whole setup is really zoomed thru by just saying that Tex
was "not himself" and suffered from -whatever, retrograde amnesia
or whatnot - basically, an excuse for not coming up with anything
more creative. I am talking about an excuse at intelligence level
of Bobby Ewing of Dallas TV-show standing in shower cheerfully
saying "Good Morning Dear ! Had a good night's sleep ?" :/

Now at present time, Tex's priorities are to find out what happened
to him, to Chelsea and try to free himself from murder charge.
He tries to accomplish this by going up and down the Avenue
talking to old and new residents (and collecting comic books?) uh...
This is the setup and objective for the first part of the game, and
it really is FMV interviews and discussions in the perfect Tex Murphy
fashion. So far so good.

This rather straightforward story is however mysteriously changed
to, pardon me, ridiculously absurd setup of soul/time-travel,
lost love, electrical UFO-style mumbojumbo (hence game's title,
reference to scientist Nikola Tesla), occult mummy priests and, well
honestly I lost interest somewhere there and just wanted to play
the game to the end.
I paid full price of 20 bucks for the game for sheer support of Chris
Jones and Tex franchise, but really the story twist was so absurd
that I do feel that the game was not worth the money. I am
afraid either that a) they ran out of money half-way thru the game
development or b) they had the first part figured out already during
Microsoft years, but without clear vision where to proceed after the
basic setup was resolved - once the opportunity araised and they were
able to purchase Tex rights back, they were forced to go forward
with whatever they could in that available timeframe.

SPOILER 2: Hint on gameplay.

As a rule of thumb, in conversations the best choice is generally
speaking always the first one. Second one is generally always the
neutral option, and third one generally "the evil Tex response".
Despite logically they don't always seem to be that way, but in fact
they follow this logic tediously.

And most single important discussion happens early in the game,
the first time you visit the police station. If you manage to get
on good terms with detective handling your case, you are in good
position to get a "good ending" in the final scene (although the
"worst" ending is really most fun, and ending up with the best-looking
girl of the bunch is there in the middle) :) All endings can be
watched on Youtube if you so wish.

SPOLERS END !!

Some of the puzzles in TE were rather forcibly just thrown in. In
general, I hate puzzles in which chance and random clicking/guesswork
is the main driving force, instead of logical thinking. I TE there
were surprisingly many puzzles that either were of the "light correct
lights in order with random sequence of buttons" or "match wheel rings
by varying rotation speed and direction" types. If possible, I would
either skip or otherwise dodge these types of puzzles entirely.

GK2 was my favourite game for a long time, but I also liked GK3, but what I
liked about GK2 was the FMV and the interesting looking locations in the
videos of Munich and the various other buildings and historical places. I
knew they existed because the locations were real and so was the video. I
also knew the story was not true but was inter-woven with the locations to
make the story look true I found the locations very interesting and thought
it must be a very nice place to visit in real life. In Singers Hall, the
paintings were mostly all real were they not? except for the one that was
changed to suit the story -wasn't there a painting in the game of a wolf?.

Very interesting. I always wondered if the various locations in Marienplatz
really existed. I found the door man or receptionist in the hunting club to
be very pompour and self important and amusing. Were any of the more minor
part actors in the game ordinary people or were all actors hired for the
game?

I found Ludwig's castle the most interesting looking through the rooms, etc.

I think the GK3 engine could hae been negative at the time because people at
that time liked FMV best as in GK2 because they liked to see the actors in a
video rather than in graphics. I thought so myself, but I liked GK3 story
just as much as GK2, and for me, story is the most important part of a game,
though graphics and interface has some importance also. I disliked times
sequences in any games and always look at reviews to see if there are many
mentioned. I don't mind a few if important to the story, but can't see why
timed sequences are needed in any adventure games. In my view, it interrupts
my concentration and continuity of the game.

Thanks for the information on Gabriel Knight 1, 2 and 3 on Youtube. I
checked a few things, but will check more when I get time. I've played GK2
and 3 several times though not for a while.

It must be interesting to see the real locations in Munich.

I am also a fan of Tex Murphy. I played UAKM and it was ok but I liked
Pandora Directive much more. The story, the acting, the characters on
Chandler St. were all interesting. I got it from Gog also a couple of years
ago though I have the original discs, but it was a good price on Gog and
easier than having to install 6 disks I think it is. I played Overseer, but
it did not have the appeal to me or the interesting tasks or puzzles that
Pandora directive did.

I find there is a lot of Tex repeating the same things when he goes from
store to store every time you click on something.
I am not too far into the game so can't really give a fair opinion till I am
further into the game or finish the game. I have reached the part about
going to The Beach. Some of the characters on Chandler St. are in Tesla
Effect but look a bit different but its 18 years since Pandora Directive.
Tex looks a little different but sounds the same.

Do you mean Roswell?

Can you skip puzzles in the game and still continue in the game or in the
part I am now at, it looks like you have to solve the puzzle I am at, or the
game won't move on.
I got stuck on a couple of repetitious puzzles that you have to watch
carefully over and over to solve. The graphics are nice, But as I said, I
have not gone very far into the game so I will have a better opinion of the
game later in the game. Many people in reviews seem to like it. It's nice
to see you posting here again Rudi.

No- in fact whole Engelhart story is a made-up thing. Wagner didn't
compose anything to that effect. All other ornaments and decorations
are true and right there in Neuschwanstein castle.

>Very interesting. I always wondered if the various locations in Marienplatz
>really existed.

Yes they do. Even the sausage stand is there, right next door to the
Übergrau's doorway :) And that doorway actually belongs to Munich city
government, IIRC there is City Zoning office behind the doors :)

Hmm let me try to recall... At least Wolf Muser (Herr doktor) and
Andrea Martin (Gerde) were professional German actors, also Harald
Ûbergrau (well the actor of course) was clearly native German speaker.
OTOH some secondary characters were just as obviously American,
speaking their lines phonetically without understanding anything they
said :) Police station and Ludwig museum receptionists first come to
my mind.

Don't remember about Xavier, IIRC his accent was of native German.
BTW Peter Lucas, guy who played the Baron , is really Polish.

>I found Ludwig's castle the most interesting looking through the rooms, etc.

Neuschwanstein Castle produced a walk-thru DVD about 10 years ago.
I was quite mad at myself for never getting it. However, today again
Youtube comes to rescue - there are tons of HD videos about the
castle on y'tube. DVD has been out of print since many years -I have
checked it directly from the castle :(

Yes, in fact it is thanks to You Mary, that I discovered GOG. Very
good hint, thank you very much. Ease to buy, download and reinstall on
a new computer is second to none.

>I played Overseer, but

Seconded, Overseer "tone" was really different from the two
predecessors - It is difficult to describe, but there was some sort
of "warmness" in UAKM and PD (despite that both had disturbing
and serious characters in them) that is lacking in Overseer. Very hard
to find words. Characters are just not, well, likeable.

>> Now, Tesla Effect raised mixed feelings in me. It is as it consists of

Yes, that comes with the system. One hint that I discovered already
in UAKM, and seemingly, they carry it along as an in-game joke, is
that if you are totally helplessly stuck, then visit Rook's backyard
and check his trash :) :) :) (In UAKM it was the chocoholic, then
thereafter a key, or some other vital piece :):) )

>I have reached the part about going to The Beach.

You will then still have some way to go.

Heh, Rook and Louie almost look the same, but really do *sound* the
same :) I cracked totally with Louie's pronunciation of "Murphy "
("Maif"`? :):) )

You are right, Alcatraz section was in fact in Overseer. Sorry, my
bad.

Um, you caught me here :) I played the game thru when it came out in
the spring, but frequently used hint option with puzzles. IIRC you use
hint a couple times and the game asks if you want to skip the puzzle,
at a cost of points

It is released now, but the DRM free humble versions have a bug, the

Hi folks from Finland, I've been a member here for many years, but I haven't posted much.

It's not until now I have time to play. Is the remastered GK1 free to download? Any other good adventure games that are free?

thanks, Fredrik

Did I mention Gog to you a while back or do you mean I mentioned it here on
this NG? I don't think you've posted here for a long time.

Actually, I didn't care much for UAKM though some of it was ok. It seems to
me it had a lot of timed tasks or puzzles. Pandora did too with that running
into electrical wires, but not as many as UAKM and from my point of view,
Pandora had a much more interesting story and puzzles. I seem to remember
UAKM being difficult to get around.

Was Rook in UAKM? I seem to remember the chocoholic from Pandora directive.
He's in Tesla Effect and is the manager of the Ritz instead of Nilo. Nilo
was funnier with his insults to Tex..

Yes, I have almost finished the Beach part.

Yes, Louie is quite funny. He's lost weight since Pandora. I think he says
the Maif part like U.S. slang from the way they might pronounce it from New
york city - The Bronx? Or maybe Brooklyn?. Can't remember.

I can't remember a lot about Overseer except to remember it wasn't near as
good as Pandora Directive. I kept Pandora and have played it several times,
but I gave Overseer away as I knew I would not likely want to play it again.

It says in a walkthbrough you can skip puzzles, but I'm not sure you can
skip them all. I am using a walkthrough with Tesla Effect. I just passed the
part about baseball cards. I used the walkthrough. very tedious puzzle.

It's not free. As you can see on this link it is $19.99 and to play it you
have to buy it. It's available here: http://www.postudios.com/company/ -
Maybe it's available somewhere else cheaper.
I don't know if there is any good adventure games that are free. Maybe
someone else here knows of some.

Yes, I knew the Engelhart story was made up, but what I was asking was in
Singer's Hall in Ludwig's castle, are the paintings in Singer's Hall the
paintings that hang in Singer's Hall? one of the pictures was changed to
look like there was a wolf in the painting, or more than one wolf. I forget
now. That picture was not real but was created to suit the story in the game
about wolves.

They look real especially the sausage stand.

Ubergrau the lawyer was obviously German speaking. I was referring to the
door man/receptionist at the Hunt club. I think he was German speaking
too. Most of the actors in GK2 appeared to be German with German accents,
except for Gabriel (Dean Erickson), who was American actor.

I thought the museum receptionists and police station sounded German.

Who was Xavier?
I knew Peter Lucas was Polish. He sounded German in the game but was
probably supposed to. H was on a few American TV shows, but never became
very successful. I havent heard of him for years. I thought he was a
handsome fellow.

The DVD would have been interesting. Was it in English? I don't go on
Youtube much. But occasionally I go on it when it's something interesting.
So I will check. Thanks.

GOG carries it too. Price is the same $19.99 but since GOG keeps track
of your purchases, and is 100% DRM free, I recommend buying from them.

Jane Jensen's Grey Matter is now on sale on GOG, for $1.99.
I bought it the same time I got GK 1 remake.

Her newest "Moebius Rising" was at first in 15 dollar range but seems
to be $23.79 now. That one I got in the spring, about the same time as
Tesla Effect. Gameplay and puzzles/intellectual challenges are good
but the story arc is somewhat "over the top", to put it mildly... I
really cannot recommend that tile, sad to say.

This computer I am posting from is from 2010. I still have all
messages since then in my outbox, and I have been posting once in a
while, although as You yourself said, the traffic level is so low that
there might be months in between posts.

As per how You mentioned GOG to me, I had responded to someone
about using/configuring DosBox, and You pointed out that GOG has
already solved those issues, and is re-selling titles that are both
DRM free and updated to run on modern hardware.

Yes he was

OK. I *hated* every single "turn wheels in opposite directions to
complete the image" and IIRC skipped them all. Eventually I finished
the game, ending with the worst possible cutscene (which OTOH made
me LMAO :) :) :) )

IIRC none of them were. All were changed. OK, it has been a while,
I must research the matter. But IIRC all of them were movie magic.

>Ubergrau the lawyer was obviously German speaking. I was referring to the

Xavier (or Xaver, how he is referred to in the wikipedia list I
posted) *was* the Hunting Club receptionist :)

>too. Most of the actors in GK2 appeared to be German with German accents,

Not so many of them :) However few of them seemed to be Americans
who were still native German speakers, for example the police
detective. Wolf Muser and Andrea Martin were only ones I remembered
from e.g. Derrick and similar cop shows.

>>OTOH some secondary characters were just as obviously American,
>I thought the museum receptionists and police station sounded German.

Nope. Not by far :)
Telltale mark is always the pronunciation of ch-sound. In German you
make almost a sighing sound, like an overcooked H, whereas
Americans prononunce it K. Like BacH -> becomes BaK or SchumacHer
becomes SchumaKer. Never fails to tell an American from it :)

Yes and all Grace's comments of the panels/furniture etc. are from
real life also.

Supposedly it had -, I would imagine they would have made different
language versions. But as I said, I didn't get it at the time and now
it is history, blaah :(

It's cheap enough but is it a good game? Have you played it, has anybody
hear played it?I played the demo and it didn't appeal to me, so I never
bought it. Also, it's not just the money for the game, I have to be careful
how much I download as my cap is only 25G a month for downloading- if I go
over that I have to pay extra for the extra Gigs I use. So far I've only
downloaded games that were not very big, and don't want to go over my limit.

Yes, there is not much going on here at all - for several weeks, you might
see no messages or hardly any but once in a while, like now, some people who
used to come here, post again like yourself who hasn't posted here for
months or years. I still check this NG and if I see a post, I check it. As
far as NG's there are still some that are active, not as many posts but
sometimes it gets busy for a while then drops off again. I always thought
NG's served a worthwhile purpose where you could go to discuss subjects of
interest to yourself and others. I don't know why they gradually disappeared
though some are still around and some even fairly active. Maybe because of
Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Yes, that is true. I like Gog best. I bought a game from Steam last year and
everything was ok, but I don't think most of their games are DRM, but maybe
some are. Also their website is difficult for me for me to see as most of
their screens have a black background and it was hard on my eyes. Gog is a
better website with brighter colours and not a dark screen.
It is probably fine for young or youngish people which is not me.

I haven't come to any puzzle where I had to turn wheels. The baseball puzzle
was a pain and even who wrote the walk through said they didn't like that
puzzle but they solved the puzzle and figured anybody who were tryng to
figure out the puzzle would be glad the person who wrote the walkthrough
figured it out for those who couldn't figure it out. They were right about
that. It's good there are smart people who are good at writing walkthroughs
or I would be stuck forever on many of those puzzles.

The paintings looked as if they were real paintings in the game. I forgot if
I asked you , have you been to Ludwig's castle?

I havent gone back to the link you sent me for the characters in the game,
but I would have said Xavier was German.

I never noticed much about the police detective though I remember him. I
don't remember Wolf Muser either.

What about the guy who looked after or had an office near where the wolves
were kept and Gabriel went there one day and talked to him? I can't remember
the guys name. He sounded German to me.

You are German I presume? so you would notice if characters were German by
small things in the way they speak.

Äs I said, puzzles and intellectual challenges were good or very good.
Story arc was just too absurd for me to swallow.

In gameplay, one very big pet peeve was that you couldn't pick up
any stuff to your inventory until they were really needed. It created
a lot of backtracking and occasionally got even stuck because I
wouldn't remember or recogize some detail from way back.
I would rate it 3½ stars out of 5.

That is true, most of the volume has transferred to other mediums.
That is very sad, blogs etc tend to get so much worse
signal/noise ratio than here in usenet. Of course, even back then
there were newsgroup trolls, but not as bad as today.

I kept a blog for a short while, but it got attacked by a bot which
filled my quota in a heartbeat - about 5000 messages in few hours -
so I just had to discontinue it.

Steam requires their client to be active in the background just about
on all of their games, even if playing in offline-mode. Ditto Origin
(they give out one game per month for free to play, but require you to
register and use their account and client every time). That's why I
don't use either of them.

Steam has one killer feature, remote streaming of games. I nowadays play
games mostly that way with my notebook computer in bed (a mac) while my
pc hosts the games downstairs. This is a very comfortable way to play
games. This is the main reason why I use steam and I even have all my
Gog games in my Steam list.

Some people seem to like Grey Matter and others don't.

It is annoying to have to backtrack but it happens in some games.. But 3
1/2 out of 5 stars isn't that bad.

I thought that might be Doktor Klingmann.

That explains your familiarity with the German language, but you seem to
have a good command of English but live in Finland. I thought Rudi was a
German name.

Most blogs I've seen are quite boring, though some must be interesting. NG's
were better as far as you could go to a group with a subject you were
interested in and people there would be discussing the same subject. Media
groups such as Facebook and Twitter are very varied as far as what you do
there or what you want to find out. I sometimes used to go to Facebook but
not for a while. I find there are other things I would rather do when I go
on the computer. Each to his own I guess.

I can see why.

I think it depends on if you just want to download games for example like me
and I like the DRM part where you can copy the downloaded game onto a DVD
and play it without having to access the website where you got it to play
the game. For me Gog is more suited to my needs. Steam is probably more
suited to features of Steam. I've always used Gog simply because it's easier
to navigate and the website itself is brighter and I can see better, but as
usual, each to his own.

I don't like when that happens either.

In Tesla Effect, not quite the same situation but I am stuck at a part where
I have to backtrack a lot because there must be something I have not done. I
had to look up the walkthrough and should be able to go to a certain place
but the place is closed. I don't know what I missed .I've repeated some
parts and listened to the same conversations.I might have to repeat the
whole day. I don't like how the saves are done with auto saves or save your
own, and sometimes makes it hard to find out where you left off last time.

Do you mean Finland?
The world's best school system is the U.K. :)
