Nice to see a couple more 'oldie users' back on Usenet! :)

I liked all the GK games and all the Tex Murphy games. Sure, some were better than others but I got great enjoyment from them all. Didn't matter to me how they were made, FMV or not, I just liked the stories they told. I just finished the GK1 remake and glad I bought it again.

Then, there are the other older series games like Quest For Glory, King's Quest or Space Quest, and I'm happy to have played them all (except KQ7 was a disappointment). I'm fairly easy to please I guess! LOL!

That being said, I had high hopes for Gray Matter and it fell terribly flat. It had potential but was difficult and the potential storyline went nowhere.

Slooowly playing Tesla (due to the fact that I'm playing with my daughter when both of our time permits) and just bought DreamFall Chapters I but haven't started it yet. After years and years of the adventure game drought, I'm pleased to have some options again...

Okay, I am done rambling! :)

OK thanks for the warning. Mary's opinion was pretty much similar.
I got it exactly for the cheap price (+Jane Jensen's name) so I guess
it was a rabbit-from-a-hat thing. Oh well.

I would have liked to see Jane Jensen making another Gabriel Knight game.
All three GK games she made were all very good. Gray Matter is quite
different from them.

There might be some other "Oldie users" hiding in the background here. It's
nice to have people posting here again.

Good you are enjoying it. I might get it sometime.

I didn't play any of the Quest for Glory or Space Quest, but I remember they
were quite popular, just not my cup of tea.
I liked most Police Quest games . I can't believe you didn't like KQ7. KQ8
was a dud to most people. But I thought KQ7 was a great game and have played
it quite a few times. Most people I knew at the time who played it liked it.
My daughter was playing it at the same time as me thought it was fabulous. I
played KQ 6 and KQ7 which was good. She played them too plus KQ5 which I
think was made quite a lot earlier than later KQ series.I bought it at a
bargain price one time but couldn't get into it.

I thought it might have potential but when I played the demo, the story
didn't seem very interesting.I don't always go by demoes. But gives you an
idea bout the game. I played the demo of "Night of the Rabbit" months ago,
and I didn't like the graphics. But it was on sale on Gog one weekend and
decided to get it. Gog sometimes has good prices on certain games on
weekends. It took me a little time to get into the game, but as the game
went on, I liked the acting and story and graphics seemed to suit the story.
I thought it was a pretty good game.

I am stuck in Tesla day 3 and may have to re-play the whole day again though
re-played a lot of it already.

I agree, it has definitely been years and years of adventure game drought,
except for a few good adventure games released here and there. I wonder what
Dreamfall Chapters will be like.I played The longest journey which was a
good game and also played Dreamfall which I liked even better.

Okay, I am done rambling! :)

That's ok - ramble on :)

IIRC she actually *was* working on GK4 when sadly JJ&hubby (=their
company) went under. I think GK4 story would have been about vampires
(not like those who were in GK3, the Dracula kind instead)

So far it is pretty buggy and you need a strong machine for it.
I have not played deeply yet because the Mac version crashes on me, but
I have read a lot of complaints about the performance of the game.

That doesn't sound too good. I hope they will fix things soon with a patch
so people can play the game. I am not sure how well it would run on my
desktop. It's 4 years old but the video card could be the weak spot. Its a
dedicated card but only has an ATI HD 3450. It's played every game I've
played so far, but may not be fast enough for Dreamfall chapters. I have a
laptop as well. I'm not sure it would run Dreamfall Chapters. The video in
the laptop is GEforce 300 I think but I am playing Tesla on it and it runs
fine so far - it's slower running on the desktop so I will stick to the
laptop. I think I will wait till the game is patched before getting it.

I like the GK stories.-I've played enough dracula games. I read on an
interview with Jane Jensen that she wants to make a
GK4 game but doesn't have the rights, she only has rights at the moment to
make the re-make of GK1 but hopes that if the re-make does well, she can get
the rights to make GK4. That would be good, but not about vampires :(

Actually the game was patched for the MAC yesterday so I finally was
able to start the game.
The puzzles are very easy.
The story even in the first chapter simply can be described as
phantastic. Definitely one of the strongest intro stories I have
encountered in any game ever.

So far the graphics mediumly demanding so far but look fantastic
nevertheless, but I have not reached the part where everyone was
complaining about poor framerates.
Nevertheless Red Threaded Games will roll out a first patch mid next
week which should fix the most serious issues.
Either way in your case I would wait for some time until the biggest
bugs are ironed out. There are none regarding the game itself so far,
but I noticed some technical glitches.

What i noticed, where some graphical glitches on the Mac.
I originally had a crash to the desktop after the intro screen, that is
fixed now (again Mac only, the PC did not have this problem).
The controller support is very limited, you either play with mouse and
keyboard or you play with an xbox360 or PS3 controller.
PS4 and XBONE controller support is forthcoming. Not sure if they will
ever patch support for the Steam remote streaming in (The xbox
controller was not recognized through remote streaming). I am in a
minority here to wanting to play the game via streaming.

According to the forums, there is a graphically very demanding area
where the framerate really becomes unstable (Europolis). RTG is working
currently to fix that. I have yet to reach the area to see how bad it
really is.

At least you got to start the game and finding the puzzles are very easy -
so far, but who knows what they will be like later in the game.

Good that the game RedThread games are getting a patch out mid next week and
hope it fixes several problems. I will wait to see if there will be more
patches after next week. What kind of technical glitches did you find?

Do you have a PC? or always use a Mac? Does the Mac have more problems than
the PC?

I hope you can get some of the game played before needing a patch. in the
old days most times you had to re-do the game from start if it was found the
game needed a patch, rather than patching it wherever you were in the game
and continuing.

I hope things get fixed up soon so that people can get the game and play it.
I guess Redthread games are working on patches.

Thanks for the information Werner. I'm sure others here will also be
interested.

Mary

MACs hand PCs have both problems on the Mac they are different. I just
prefer Macs because I work as software engineer, and prefer the UNIX
which Macs use (OSX is a UNIX derivate). So most of the times the Mac is
my workhorse.

I have both, a Mac as notebook computer and a PC as a standalone
computer (Core i5 16 Gig Ram NVidia 660). I prefer to play on the
notebook in bed, most of the times I stream the game via Steam inhouse
streaming with the game being run on the PC, because many times there is
no mac port of a game, although the situation has become significantly
better (My Mac Steam list is about 1/3rd of my PC Steam list). Inhouse
streaming really works well if you have a good wifi connection.

In case of Dreamfall chapters, inhouse streaming did not work with a
controller so I reverted to the native Mac version which was (to some
degree still is) more unstable than the PC version of the game.

That used to be the case, nowadays if a game is released patches do not
break saves anymore. If you play the betas however it can happen and
happened many times for instance in Divinity Original Sin.
