Alhtough admittedly, haven't checked in in a while - it is rather sad that usenet as a whole is pretty much a relic. I guess suits us :) These comments are regarding to GK 2&3 + remake. I'll comment Tesla Effect separately -> >>> Did you play GK2 and 3? >GK2 was done in full motion video. Point and click. As you will recall, the >game had a lot of parts based loosely on historical events like the castle >built by King Ludwig and the paintings in Singer's Hall in GK2 were very >interesting. Yes, GK2 was indeed FMV, and to be exact, locations were based on real-life photographs to an astonishing degree. IIRC only thing they deliberately changed were in fact the pictures in the Singers' Hall -in real life, Neuschwanstein hall pictures do *not* depict Engelhart story /nor opera :) Also, you don't find the hunting club at that address, nor there is Ûbergrau's lawyer's office at that door on Marienplatz. Both are btw valid and existing Munich locations, I have visited both doorways :) (although in German addresses, you write first the street, then number whereas in the game they use american "#number, street"-notation, so for example the hunting club's correct address would be DienerstraBe 42, not the other way around. OK, Jane Jensen used also a 555-xxxx telephone number which in Germany would be not-movie number but actual one, despite incorrect notation used) (Oh yes, the hunting club doorway is not numbered at all #42 but something else. I forgot what, but which right now isn't really important) :) But as far as the other locations go, pretty much all of them were real-life - Ludwig museum was recreated to great detail, as was Altöttingen church, Ludwig's memorial chapel and of course the castle. Even Gabriel's castle was real-life, although that castle's indoor rooms were in fact done on sets. There are a few videos on Youtube in which posters have hunted down (pun intended:) shooting locations and compared them with game depictions. Search on Youtube with "Gabriel Knight location tour" >GK3 was done differently in 3D graphics engine. Jane Jensen did a lot of >research for the GK games. They were all good games with interesting stories >though a lot of people didn't like the timed sequence in GK2 -neither did >I - you probably remember it. I played GK2 and GK3 quite a few times. They >are high on my list of faves. I liked the GK3 engine, alhtough general consensus at the time was rather negative. It was very creative design, with freely zoomable camera, independent of the characters' movements and actions - and that very design allowed huge number of simultaneous things to happen which was major contributing factor to the utter complexity of character action and -interaction in the game. Basically, at any given time, any character you could find would be doing *something* which may have been important, or contribute to the story - or then maybe nothing interesting at all. In order to score top points, you really had to replay the sequences, watch other character actions, and try to guess which were important and which were just red herrings. Of course, you could finish the game only playing and watching the mail couple's actions, but you would miss a substantial number of indirect clues explaining the story details and background logic. ALso GK3 has "location tour" videos available on Youtube. Have fun watching (and hunting) :) !! Cheers, Rudi.
