Can anyone help me on the LAST Clan Trial of Position, for the Wolf Clan. I can pretty much get through the first 2 mechs without much harm done, but usually my LRM's are depleted to about 40 total left. I can then SOMETIMES, about 1 in 10 times, kill the next 2 mechs, but there seems to be a 5th guy that wakes up.. Is it because I am accidently hitting him? Anyways I can almost never make it through mechs #3 & #4 anyways. can someone outline a coherent strategy for me! This last Trial is ROUGH...if you want to go for 2... I assume this is my only chance to get Khan, I could not go for 1, then later try for another level, could I? -Roger -------------------------------------------------------------- NET: uz...@crash.cts.com *WINDOWS from the folks who brought you EDLIN

Personally, when I came upon this decision, I just didn't do it :).. For me, I realized that 1) i'm not a very good mech pilot 2) i'm sick of killing mechs 3) i really just care about seeing the end so, i just settled for Nova Colonel at the end :) oh well, i now i'm cheap..

Hold down ctrl+shift+alt, and type 'blorb' (w/o quotes)... that's invulnerabiltiy. 'cia' gives you unlimited ammo, 'mightymouse' gives you unlimited jumpjets. And the game WILL let you progress as if you didn't cheat, unlike the cheats inthe menu.

Put a AC/20 on a mech with no addictional ammo. Load it up with heat sinks and armor and hit CTRL-SHIFT-ALT "CIA" when you get to the sim. Nothing stands up to a unlimited AC/20

You're actually expected to kill all those mechs that come at you---5 of 'em. Considering this isn't one-on-one, no one tends to last very long against 2 and then 3 mechs heavier than what you're in---that is, if you don't want to cheat, or if you set the difficulty to Easy. Me, I'm just happy to settle for Galaxy Commander (the Warhawk killed off any aspirations I had for Khanhood). Me, I'm just happy >to settle for Galaxy Commander (the Warhawk killed off any aspirations I >had for Khanhood). Well actually, with difficulty set to medium and without any cheating, it can still be done, but it requires a bit of skill, and a coherent plan. Here is what I did, Fist unload a lot of missiles into the approaching summoner/warhammer whatever the non-warhawk guy in wave #1 is, then as he approaches group fire him into oblivion (well placed hits should get him out of there in at most 10 seconds). Then circle around the mound of dirt, shooting the warhawk in the legs, it is EASY to get behind him, the warhawk is the lamest pilot of the bunch. Knock out one of his legs BUT DO NOT KILL HIM. Now march off over to the 3 other mechs, and knock out any of the structures that may get in your way. Now get DIRECTLY behind one of the marauders with your turret turned about 60 degrees or so, and shoot him with about 80 LRM's right in the back, then go IMMEDIATELY into your main weapons group and load up on his back. DO NOT HIT ANYONE ELSE. He will go down quickly as his back is basically now ripped open, be careful NOT to hit anyone else. Now, get behind the other marauder and do the same, BUT NOTE THE OTHER GUY (the warhammer/summoner whatever it is) will wake up too, so this is the tricky part. You have to kill these 2 guys while they are both awake, unfortunately. Once these last 2 are dead, go back to the warhawk and put him out of his (and your) misery. You are now KHAN. At least it worked for me....the key was you have to shoot the "stagnant" mechs in the back, to be able to finish them off quickly after they wake up. -Roger -------------------------------------------------------------- NET: uz...@crash.cts.com *WINDOWS from the folks who brought you EDLIN

In article <DCrtI...@crash.cts.com>, uz...@crash.cts.com says... > >Can anyone help me on the LAST Clan Trial of Position, for the >Wolf Clan..... Here's how I did it. Kill the first mech then cripple the second. This will buy you time and keep the next three mechs from coming after you by leaving you in phase 1. Walk up to the three stationary (phase 2) mechs and, 1 at a time, kill them. Be careful because they are already powered up and will return fire instantly. However if you take them one at a time you can win. After you destroy the three phase 2 mechs all you have to do is shoot the other leg off the mech you crippled before. Good Luck!

I used some bugs in the program to gain Khan position for Jade Falcon (Firemoth<?> vs. a Marauder and a Dire Wolf? ALL RIGHT!!!). By getting very close to one of the obstacles, and luring your opponent (on the opposite side of the structure) to do the same, you can sometimes fire THROUGH the obstacle to hit your target. Seemed fair - with priority problems, my foe eventually seemed to walk THROUGH the corner of the structure anyway. By that time, my little medium lasers had robbed the Dire Wolf of both of his arms, and had barely put his torso in early yellow. I just had to rush him, and then fire almost straight up to nail him. Sure, my mech was barely standing after taking damage from the resulting explosion, but I won. Jay

Why not just hack the files and give yourself the rank of Khan? It would be about as much fun! I used the following technique to win the last trial of position for the Wolf Clan. You can decide for yourself if it's honorable or not... I first engaged the Warhammer and Dire Wolf. I dispatched the Warhammer pretty quick, then shot a leg out from under the Dire Wolf. The key is to leave him alive, but immobile... Aside from him, 3 mechs remained: another Warhammer, and two Marauders. Now the rules of the ToP indicate if I engage an opponent from the second phase, he can start fighting me. So, I shot the Warhammer, forcing him to engage me in 1-on-1...killed him. Then, I shot one of the Marauders, forcing him to engage me in 1-on-1...killed him. After that, I dispatched the Dire Wolf, officially ending phase 1. I shot the engagement sphere starting phase 2, and killed the final Marauder. Mission successful! Sean

In that scenario, I only used the fire-through-obstacles thing a little bit. The Marauder I killed by going for the legs, and finishing the job too quickly for it to respond much. The Dire Wolf I killed by running past it several times at full speed, using torso twist to get a bead on it. I use the mouse for aiming, and the joystick for manuevering, and I'm a pretty good shot, so it worked pretty well. When the Dire Wolf was hurting pretty badly I just went toe-to-toe, and nearly died, but finished it off. I like lasers, they don't need any leading at all. That's the way lasers should work. There are so many games (Are you listening WC III people?) where lasers travel slowly, and take a long time to get to the target. This is pretty ridiculous. -- --Me (Eric Hopper) Fare well, wherever you fare, and may your aeries receive you at your journey's end. --J.R.R. Tolkien 'The Hobbit'

In defense of WC3, only a couple of those weapons are actually lasers, and the rest are various accelerated particles, and Mechwarrior 2 didn't do any more of a realistic job with accelerated particles than WC3. Those of us who are used to the Virtual World simulator were taken a bit by surprise when we fired the PPC and saw a slow-travelling ball of energy, rather than the instant hit we expected. (though I find the missile targeting at VWE > ridiculous myself, they dont even "lock") Erm...not quite true. All missiles in the VWE simulators are instant-lock. They target and track whatever is under the crosshairs when you pull the trigger. In comparison to Mech2, they're easier to use than regular SRMs, but harder than Streaks and LRMs. It would be kind of nice to add the Streak locking system to VWE, but I think the system is fine otherwise. Speaking of Streaks, what happened to the board game idea that Streak SRMs can only be fired with lock? I know that things change in board game to simulator translations, but it would be nice if this were true in Mech2 as well. I've wasted a few good shots because of an itchy trigger finger. I wouldn't want LRMs to have this function, because I sometimes like to use them at under minimum range, but the Streaks should be more of a guaranteed hit. Eric Simon dark...@merle.acns.nwu.edu

If you don't have a lock, they act like normal SRMs. Sometimes, when your torso is red, you really don't have the extra two seconds to wait for a missile lock, so you fire the streaks like SRMS and pray that they hit. I think part of the key to this game, as I've said before, may be reliable aim of conventional SRMs. They use up less tonnage, and they do just as much damage as the streak missiles. You just have to be able to aim as opposed to letting the targeting system do it all for you. Not to sound like a Battletech pundit, which I am certainly not (I like live action games like MWII, not tabletop games) but wouldn't the Clan mechwarriors feel that SSRMS are less honorable than SRMS? If I can dismember you with SRMS, it means that I can aim better than if I need the targeting systems that come with streak missiles.

I don't see what your problem is if u want a cheep but easy way to do it all u have to do is
link all your wepons together with the "\" key an d take out one of the legs then go up behind
it and start shooting it. O and if your heat gets to high just push and hold the Alt+Ctrl+Shift
keys down and type "coldmiser" but that would be disonerable.

In my opinion 10 * ER Med Laser + heat sink val of 60 is a blast.
Even a Mad Dog with 60 tons is able to carry 8 MED lasers. 1t 1crit 7dam * 10
rocks.

I'll never be Khan (at least not in the Wolf clan) because the darn thing won't let me finish the first mission. I can never "inspect the firebase." I've tried wasting it, targetting it, clearing all the navs, jumpjetting around there .. nothing! F12 always says "In Progress." Can someone help me out here? - ben

The only thing I can think of is that there must be a flaw in your game. Actually, I've run into the same problem on mission 10 or 11 on the Wolf Clan track, but my wife is also stuck on the same mission in the Falcon Clan. In both missions we do exactly what the primary objective said to do, but still end up failing the mission because the computer does not acknowledge that the objective was completed. In your case though, there may be something, as I recall there are several targets within the firebase, and you have to destroy 2 or 3 of them before it registers as having destroyed the firebase (of course, I may be thinking of another mission. I have the worst memory of any human being in the history of mankind, well, at least as far as I can remember). Doug

F12???
On my copy I just use the 'q' button to get an object on display,
and the 'i' button to "inspect" it.
When the mission is to inspect something, the very second I do
that I get to hear that the mission is a success and go to dock-dock.

I don't know about how well it plays on your system, but I think MW2 is
much better than Earthsiege. The controls are more intuitive, and you
get to do cool things like jumping. And you have more control over customizing
your mech. And I never understood the damage system in Earthsiege. I thought
things died too easy (including myself) in Earthsiege.

Wrong Mark,
I am using a 486 with a 512k video board just stuck in a veas slot
In 320 mode the game looks and performs fine!. The only loss is strange
blocks in the movies, not too many but some. Im not buying a new card either!
