If you don't have a lock, they act like normal SRMs. Sometimes, when your torso is red, you really don't have the extra two seconds to wait for a missile lock, so you fire the streaks like SRMS and pray that they hit. I think part of the key to this game, as I've said before, may be reliable aim of conventional SRMs. They use up less tonnage, and they do just as much damage as the streak missiles. You just have to be able to aim as opposed to letting the targeting system do it all for you. Not to sound like a Battletech pundit, which I am certainly not (I like live action games like MWII, not tabletop games) but wouldn't the Clan mechwarriors feel that SSRMS are less honorable than SRMS? If I can dismember you with SRMS, it means that I can aim better than if I need the targeting systems that come with streak missiles.
