How's dnf going to compare to q3. I remember a while ago when quake was a rival to duke nukem, a lot of people held the opinion that duke was better even though it used sprites, basically because it was a lot more fun, in deathmatch and single player. I wonder how dnf is going to measure up again q3.

Weren't the first screenshots out before Q1, and everyone was going "ooh, look at the bridges you can go over and under- what an improvement..."?

Come on,
The monsters and weapon are terrible in Unreal (haven't played KGH....)
When you hit the attack button in Quake(2), YOU SHOOT!!!
You can feel the kickback from the SSG and the RL.

I would advise to the people, who created it to write interactive tutorials for dummies or something like that instead... there would be any benefit from their work... Q2's graphics are poo anyway. I'm sorry but if anyone can show me a SHOTGUN that lights up green when you fire it then please do.... The blaster is an energy based weapon so I can understand....... Try playing the Lava Tomb ( I think that's the one ) DM level.... theres a bit where the floor opens and closes... stand on top of it in GL mode and look at the colour of your gun ( WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED ) The Unreal engine has some of the most realistic lighting effects around, but it was designed for single player ( which is a big pile of poo ) The Chipster. ================================================ "Ahh I see" said the blind man, "Pardon?" said the deaf man....

Well I don't know if you've ever seen fireworks...? Lots of colours in them! Maybe on Stroggos they only sell gunpowder which flashes green? :) >The blaster is an energy based weapon so I can understand....... > >Try playing the Lava Tomb ( I think that's the one ) DM level.... theres a >bit where the floor opens and closes... stand on top of it in GL mode and >look at the colour of your gun ( WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED ) There are a few limitations of the engine, such as fixed lighting on moving objects, unusual lighting colours etc, but you have to remember that Quake2 runs on much less powerful machines than unreal. If I had to choose between a game that had perfect lighting and colours and a game that I didn't have to spend thousands of dollars in upgrades to actually play, I would choose the second one easily. If id wanted to perfect the lighting, have smooth models, blah blah blah, they could have. But at that time no computer would have been able to play it smoothly (which is pretty much what happened to unreal for the first 10 or so patches...) > >The Unreal engine has some of the most realistic lighting effects around, >but it was designed for single player ( which is a big pile of poo ) Agreed. Three levels into unreal and the atmosphere just vanished for me... First few levels were awesome though.... But light I said above, Unreal has a performance hit in exchange for the extra graphics features. Not to mention that being released 12 months or whatever AFTER Quake2 was, you would kind of EXPECT to have better graphics and features. If it didn't, the authors should be ashamed of themselves.

Staying (vaguely) on subject, going to Half-Life... Looks nice (just in case someone's gonna reply with some stupid shit like "the engine is better") but ever tried running a LAN game of it? The pings are about double that of what you get on Quake2, maybe more. I don't think the game improvement is worthy enough of the ping increase. Keith

You guys have no idea what you are talking about. Duke Nukem was a pile of poo compared to Quake. The engine was outdated and the gameplay was worse than Doom. It ws basically Doom clone and a very bad one at that. Unreal did suck very badly but the engine was revolutionary although it used Portals which got used about twice in the game and yet it was revolutionary. Prey is a game being developed by 3d Realms and they have been working on it since the release of Duke. DNF is using the Unreal engine and will probably only be out next century and seeing as how Q3 will not have single player you cannot compare the 2. The engine in Q3 will kick the Unreal engines ass but that is what id have always been good at. -- Robert aka Wrath email...@icon.co.za ICQ:27892467 Tel: 27 31 4621708.

The other messages were talking about the GRAPHICS.... Okay Duke3D was sprite based but so was Doom.... Did Doom have an "interactive environment"? I think not..... DNForever will be far better than any other game I've seen because it uses the Firestorm ( Unreal ) engine which has insanely brilliant graphics and it is well themed unlike Quake or Unreal ( one minute your in Military looking places the next your in Medieval places or space stations ) So yes we know what we are talking about..... Q3 will offer good lighting effects and FOG.... I've seen fog in Ultim@te race and Turok 2 ( I admit this was very bad with building suddenly APPEARING ) but will that be any good in Multiplayer? Q3 will have Melee weapons in it and is badly themed.... you dont need to worry about that in Multiplayer but still it helps to make it more realistic... anyway thats my bit over with.... If you even play it.... come on MultiPlayer is the only aspect which keeps a game going....Well DNF4 will have cool story? but do you wanna read it twice? I think not.

All of these Unreal-based games' multiplayer experience will depend on what Tim Sweeney and his team at Epic come out with in the next several weeks/months in their final patch. Each game will have some enhancements no doubt, but the underlying feel of the matches will ultimately be decided by Epic, I think. _____________________________________________________________________ Trevor Covert tre...@macnn.com Games Editor, The MacNN Review http://www.macnn.com/thereview/ News Editor, Mac Gamer's Ledge http://www.macledge.com/

I don't think that with the melee weapons is decided yet.
