Well I don't know if you've ever seen fireworks...? Lots of colours in them! Maybe on Stroggos they only sell gunpowder which flashes green? :) >The blaster is an energy based weapon so I can understand....... > >Try playing the Lava Tomb ( I think that's the one ) DM level.... theres a >bit where the floor opens and closes... stand on top of it in GL mode and >look at the colour of your gun ( WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED ) There are a few limitations of the engine, such as fixed lighting on moving objects, unusual lighting colours etc, but you have to remember that Quake2 runs on much less powerful machines than unreal. If I had to choose between a game that had perfect lighting and colours and a game that I didn't have to spend thousands of dollars in upgrades to actually play, I would choose the second one easily. If id wanted to perfect the lighting, have smooth models, blah blah blah, they could have. But at that time no computer would have been able to play it smoothly (which is pretty much what happened to unreal for the first 10 or so patches...) > >The Unreal engine has some of the most realistic lighting effects around, >but it was designed for single player ( which is a big pile of poo ) Agreed. Three levels into unreal and the atmosphere just vanished for me... First few levels were awesome though.... But light I said above, Unreal has a performance hit in exchange for the extra graphics features. Not to mention that being released 12 months or whatever AFTER Quake2 was, you would kind of EXPECT to have better graphics and features. If it didn't, the authors should be ashamed of themselves.
