Vigilantism Against Sex Offenders

Post the name, address and picture of everyone convicted of a sex crime to
make the public safe. Yeah -
http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/news/breaking_news/14364668.htm

So they got the names off the website with addresses and went and killed
them. Well there's a big fucking surprise!

I wish I had veto power for all stupid ideas in the universe.

Well that's not going to happen so I'll just get a gun and start killing
people whose beliefs I don't agree with. I've had instruction from good
people like President Bush, Bin Laden and Hitler that this is the only way
to get things done.

Or maybe a bomb. Oh oh oh! Nerve gas! Where did I leave the recipe for
VX?

On the other hand - I'm not sure dead people get it any better than the
living. If I completely run out of ideas, I can always wire all my money
to Pat Robinson. I'm sure he'd appreciate my two cents in the matter.

NSA/CIA/Klingon Intelligence/FBI etc. Disclaimer: I don't really have a
recipe for VX. That was meant for comical value. The foregoing has been a
rant against sex offender registries. All implications of violence or
retaliation are merely meant to be ironic - and will not be acted out.
However - I really do wish I had veto power for stupid ideas.

W00t! SJ Merc in da hizzy :D

*ahem*

Yeah, that seems kinda odd... there are quite a few sex offenders in
downtown san jose, and it doesn't really bother me. (just rape &
sex-with-minor offenders mostly...)

Well I didn't say everyone in Amerika was a vigilante.

I think it provides a negligible degree of "protection" while creating an
unacceptable level of ostracism.

Maybe some people in this newsgroup would like it when their daughters got
raped by people who live 1 block away.

You're making the assumption that they will re-offend. While it is true
that some will re-offend, that is no reason to go and kill them.

I don't like President Bush, and generally think that americans have an
attitude that they rule the world. Does that mean that there are no
decent americans? Of course not!

FYI I live in New Zealand, a place that Bush didn't know where it was
(had he even heard of us?) before he was elected.

Well go get your gun and kill them then.

That's your way

My way:

I believe in forgiveness. (You're probably a Christian so you disagree.)
I believe in freedom from cruel and unusual punishment. (You're probably an
American so you disagree.) I believe in a right to privacy - but you're
probably a Republican so you disagree.

And since being in a sex offender registry gives you an impermeable firewall
against attacks, just hope that said criminal did something sexual, and
didn't just kill for the fun of it, or he won't be listed.

Do you really think people that molested their niece one time are the same
people who randomly select victims and kill them?

That's the problem with you people. You throw everything in the same bag
together. I hardly consider a man who had consensual sex with a 17 year
old to be a giant threat to society, but he will be put on the page the same
as someone who goes around fucking 18 month old girls to death.

Even if someone is dangerous, and listed on the page of what use is it to
potential victims? Let's say person A succeeds in protecting him/herself
and or his/her child - the predator will simply choose another victim.
That's great for person A - but I'd have to say from a legal perspective
that the negative effects of being listed on a sex offender registry far
outweigh any benefits, particularly if it just means someone else is getting
victimized (that's zero percent improvement statistically). We could push
it to the extreme - let's say everyone with internet can access these pages,
and protect themselves 100% - that puts people without internet connections
at risk - hardly equality.

You see, you can't have equality when people are being singled out.
Criminals can't recover if they are expected to always be a criminal. It's
a scarlet letter - that's all.

I wouldn't class you as Christian if you didn't believe in forgiveness
(afterall ALL christians (baring Jesus - can you call him a Christian?)
have sinned, it's only through God's forgiveness that we have a chance
to get into heaven).

We had a similar case here. Someone decided to publish a book with all
known paedophiles with their names contact numbers and home addresses in
it.

This book was then used by the offenders themselves to contact each
other and coordinate their attacks.

Known child fuckers have gone on record saying that they viewed the book
as their bible.

That's excellent! A good simple "Fuck you" is an excellent multipurpose
phrase which you can use in everyday life in almost any situation with
anyone you don't like.

Later, check out Jerk-o's ultimate technique for getting 22 items OR

Yes, I am making that assumption, because it happens all the time. A very
large percentage of offenders have done similar crimes in the past. You
can't
"cure" those people. They have a defect in the melon and the only thing that
will help is either lock them away for good or chemically castrate them.
Since
neither is an option they get put back in society, with all the dangers that
come
with it.

Suppose I had children, I think I would like to know if the one guy living
down the
street was a child rapist or not. As a parent, I think I'd have a right to
know. Just
like that I have a right to know if that big building across the street is
an office
or a police station.

And no, it's no reason to kill them, but the killer is crazy, and crazy
people do crazy
things. If it wasn't this, they would have gone and done something else. But
the fact
that a few child molesters got killed by some crazy individual, does not
mean that you
should NOT protect the VICTIMS of child molesters.

Cool. Can you show me where I said that? Wow, I almost flamed you.
Must be some reminiscient thing from the past when Cyric was still in this
newsgroup.

Furthermore, I'm not gonna repeat all I said in my previous post.

> You see, you can't have equality when people are being singled out.

So the innocent victims (in this case children) should always suffer because
you want the criminal to get "better". Right, now I understand it.

I agree. Children should be protected from people would take advantage of
them or hurt them. Like drug dealers, murderers, insane people, witches and
trolls, gang members and schoolyard bullies. None of these people appear in
public registries.

I have a few assumptions which you do not appear to agree with.
1. Sex registries do no protect victims. At best they shift victims from
the more paranoid to the less paranoid.
2. Sexual offenses are not unique crimes. If you are going to have
criminal registries then list everyone and everything, or maybe limit it to
Felonies - but don't choose one crime and make a registry for it.
3. Not all sex crimes are the same. A man who flashes strippers at a club
is not sufficiently predisposed to child molestation to justify posting a
page about him.
4. Cyric is cool.

They are definitely more cooler about these stuff than asians. In asia, if
there are 'rumors' (not convicted) about you being a child molestor you will
be 'labeled' and kept under guard, 24/7!

Actually, frankly speaking I kind of agree with Frans. I wouldn't want to be
living next door with a convicted (or non convicted) sex offenders. Sorry,
but this is how we Asians are. We are kind of narrow minded on these kind of
things.

That is certainly your attitude. Can you "cure" these sorts of people? I
certainly believe so. Granted Jail is not the best means to cure them.
Let me mention being Gay as an example (I'm not willing to argue weither
it is right or wrong, I believe that being Gay is a similar situation to
being a sexual offender (except one being legal, and the other not)). A
prominant Christian is Sy Rogers who WAS gay, and now is no longer (in
fact he preaches from his own experience on why being gay is wrong (in a
Christain sense)).

Quite right. Lets assume for a second that you were convicted of having
consensual sex with a minor when you were 20. You would be on that
register, What about your right to privacy? What about someone who has
been cured (again I say you can be cured)?

I suggest you read Spyda's post (regarding some smart New Zealand Sexual
Offenders) and tell me, by making publically available addresses etc of
Sexual offenders, that it prevents more attacks. The victims have
already had the damage done (so probably don't need protection). The
released offenders (should they be released is another arguement) have
to live somewhere, why rob them of a chance to live a normal life (If
people don't have a "normal" life, it is more likely that they will
offend in some form or other (not nessercerally a sexual offense)).

What I ment by that statment is that, while I think most american's have
the attitude that they rule the world, I still have to judge each
american individually (Luc is an example of this). In the same sense I
believe that you still have to judge each offender individually.

Your right, but it is that "not in my backyard" attitude. They've got to
live somewhere, and having done their time (according to the laws of the
country atleast), they should have the chance to lead a normal life
(whether they do or not, is their desision). Registers, and the nature
of people towards sexual offenders, have a habit of stoping this.

I am not sure about your neighbourhood but in our community if your neighbor
knows that you are a (convicted) sex offenders, the entire neighborhood will
know. Your every move will be 'surveilanced' and your every move will be
'judged' that you are trying to commit the same offence.

I'm sure you can't live like this and will move out (which IMO will be
better for both party) ;)

Well you come from a deranged, perverse, male dominated society. But it's
ok to be wrong if you are brown - I'm just sick of white people who claim to
live in liberated countries acting like they are Muslim.

Note: I'm not really racist - and probably could have said that better.

Nah it's ok to be wrong.

Seriously. I don't have anything against tyrannies and theocracies - but
people need to admit that this is what they are. Amerika is touted as the
land of the free. Freedom for what - freedom to be repressed. Freedom to
not be able to buy a sex toy because you voted for the wrong person.
Freedom to have your children taken away because they kissed someone at
school. Our society is fucked up. I live in this god forsaken shithole
where feelings rule over logic and the governments checks and balances have
gone out the window as a conservative asshole decides what is right and
wrong, while starting random wars. I admit that I have no place judging
other cultures. I view them, and make my own conclusions. I don't think
any place in the world is perfect because no place in the world has me as
emperor - but I wouldn't hold that against anyone. It seems to me that the
most desirable place, politically, for me to live would be somewhere in
Europe - and I need to investigate more to find out just where. It is
complicated by the fact that I have family and a wife who would like to see
my daughter and they seem against and reluctant to relocating respectively -
though I have no desire to make it difficult for them to see my daughter.
(And relocating without my wife is out of the question.)

It just sucks.

But really you are wrong to disagree with me because I am right, so
something other than right must be wrong.

Um . . . . I doubt the effectiveness of "cured" gays. I have known
several men who married and later divorced when they admitted they were gay.
This is the negative effect of an oppressive religion (in these cases
Mormonism).

I've often joked that if I divorced my wife that I would turn gay, just to
ensure I'd be available if she wanted to take me back. But - the truth is,
that even though I could claim to be gay and engage in homosexual acts, I
know I'd still find myself staring at women and their "parts".

I've often speculated that perhaps my beliefs were more in tune with other
American's than I was led to believe; and that they were just repressed and
not talking. But I'm learning that a large number of people actually
subscribe to this nonsense that I thought I only heard on the television.

People continually make me lose faith in mankind and our country. It's not
just sex, it's everything. (I had some examples, but deleted them because
they were stupid.) People will spend 5000$ on a television, but won't
spend 10$ extra a month to support wind power.

I like to voice my opinions here in AGSC - people at least listen for a
second. No one will listen in person. So I just shutup - and see how it
could be really easy to succumb to mob mentality. I did it once -
pretended I didn't like someone because they were unpopular - back in junior
high. (I have subsequently felt bad about that.) By the time high school
came around, the unpopular kids were usually that way for reasons I agreed
with, but I was nice to them so they liked me and clung to me annoyingly.
It was a social impairment that I found annoying, but I wouldn't have done
anything to hurt their feelings even if it would have made them go away.

I don't see any love of the fellow man; I don't see tolerance; I don't see
forgiveness only a bunch of hypocrites preaching it. All I see is hate,
anger and finger pointing.

I'm not willing to say that those people were "cured". I myself have
heard of a few stories like this. In today's Society, it is not such a
big thing to be gay, whereas 20 or more years ago it was (hense why
there are a number devorced gay people).

It's certainly getting to the stage where people are so hung up on
material things. Let me remind everyone that the person who dies with
the most toys, still dies. I'd rather leave the world the better off for

Fair enough. I'd certainly say that in part it's because you live in the
States :-p. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone in the world is a
