We've updated our website with new screenshots of Independence War/I-War 3Dfx, including new 800x600 screenshots taken from Voodoo2 boards. Also as we're recruiting, our jobs page has been updated. --- Steve Stephen Robertson st...@particle-systems.com Website: http://www.particle-systems.com

In the Tome of Sivar, below "Killjoy was here," "Stephen Robertson" <st...@particle-systems.com> scrawled: > We've updated our website with new screenshots of Independence War/I-War > 3Dfx, including new 800x600 screenshots taken from Voodoo2 boards. <sarcasm>Ooh, pretty pictures.</sarcasm> Now how about a demo that actually demonstrates the game? To put it bluntly, I'm not terribly impressed by the demo currently available, and don't see much of a reason to invest in the US version of I-War (when it comes out) instead of FreeSpace, X-Com:Interceptor or the WCP addon. (And no, my views on the demo have nothing to do with my liking the WC series.) > --- Steve > Stephen Robertson > st...@particle-systems.com > Website: http://www.particle-systems.com Death ICQ UIN: 3908950 <http://wwp.mirabilis.com/3908950> Write to your congressman and ask them if they support Representative Chris Smith's "Netizen's Protection Act of 1997" (H.R. 1748). If not, ask why they feel your mailbox should be used like public property.

Ive played iwar here on europe on a friends house and it rocks...The feeling of space is much greater than that of wingcomander or freespace..I cant explain why, must be on the engine. Also it has more thinking than in any of those games. There is/was the possibilty of a misison pack, mission editor, and I-War 2 is supposedly pencilled in for Christmas 1998. Particle have already said that they aim to create a series of games to compete drectly with the Wing Commander, though I expect their next game to be more freeform, and alow you to do more travelling around the universe. -- John - WHERE ARE ALL MY CARTOON CHARACTER UNDERPANTS??

Cool, especially the freeform the new game may take! Eduardo John Shiali wrote in message <8766...@heights.demon.co.uk>... >Daniel e Eduardo Silva wrote... > > >> Forgot to ask: >> >> Are you , Particle Systems, going to make more spacesim games?I can see >> youre good at them... >

The hack for reinstating jump points can be found on various websites. Check http://www.particle-systems.com for more info and links to other I-War sites. -- John - I think we should do extensive research into the effect of big harpoons on the crews of whaling vessels. VERY extensive research.

I am struggling with Morgan, and I am completely fed up with sticking mines on neutronium pods, which I have to do every time before I can get to the part I am having trouble with. I must have done it twenty times yesterday, then lured Morgan back to the mines twenty times, and I would dearly love to save at that point before trying to figure out how to get the pirates to investigate the pods BEFORE piling in on me. As it is I get ten minutes tedious repetition of the same actions, then ten seconds frantic fighting before I am blown away. It's a classic fault in adventure games, making people repeat a section over and over before they can get to the real problem, and it is threatening to put me off a game which is otherwise excellent. It certainly has the best feeling of flying in space that I have encountered, as well as great graphics. I really like the idea of a freeform universe, perhaps with some form of ship improvement (a la Privateer or Elite), and I hope we can look forward to flying as Indies sometime soon. BTW, if I have missed some simple trick with Morgan, I have reached the point where I would like to know about it. If it is just a question of fighting back better, then I will need to keep practising. I have tried going back to the centre of the pods and waiting, I've waited just outside the area of pods, I have gone through them and waited 50 km beyond. Every time the pirates arrive and attack me before they go for the pods, and I seem to be well outgunned. Reply by e-mail if the answer is a spoiler. Thanks. -- John Secker

It certainly has the best feeling of flying in I'd agree with you here - but that mission is not too difficult (see below). It just needs you to be practised with the controls and to think about your tactics, as do most of the missions. > space that I have encountered, as well as great graphics. If it is just a question of fighting back better, then I will need I hope to see something very freeform, but I don't know if Particle will continue with the combat/military basis for the next game, rather than going for something totally freeform like trading/mercenary basis. I suspect that will come further down the line. In the meantime, there are other freeform games arriving in the near(ish) future, mainly X, Terminus, Millenium 4D. SPOILER ALERT You have to lead Morgan back to the netronium. When his men go for the cargo pods, the mines will get some of them. Morgan previously mentioned that he has some competitors in the area - this second group of pirates jump both Morgan and you at the neutronium. When you get to the mines, go though them and out the other side quickly - those that don't get hit by the mines will get attacked by the automated defenses - the pirates will fight out amongst each other. You can either get stuck in yourself, or wait for them to destroy each other and then mop up any survivors. Basically string everyone out through the mines/neutronium, and pick any survivors off one by one. If you fail a mission, check the debriefing screen to see what you should have been doing and what you failed to do (note that objectives can change during a mission). -- John - I play postal chess with a man who doesn't know me.
