DOOM Berserk bug???

I just found out a bug in DOOM (v1.1): Berserk will last for an entire level, even if the screen isn't red anymore. I noticed that you can't switch between your hands and your chainsaw normally, but if you have berserk, you can. But I also noticed, that after I got berserk I could still switch and that I could still knock out those imps with one strike! So when I tried to toggle the berserk mode with the code after berserk was worn out (I thought it was), the screen didn't turn red, but the 'POWERUP TOGGLED' message appeared, so I typed it correctly! So berserk lasts a whole level instead of about 20 seconds! Lars

That's the way it's documented. That's the way it's supposed to work. It's a lot of fun disintegrating imps with a punch. :-) -- /* 0F 90 3E 44 F9 13 E7 CC (joj...@descartes.uwaterloo.ca) ** 10 20 44 C8 42 21 08 98 ** 38 40 F9 50 87 C2 1F 30 "Woof bloody woof" - Gaspode the Wonder Dog ** 40 81 12 61 08 84 22 00 (Terry Pratchett, Moving Pictures) */ F9 FA 24 42 11 3F 44 C0

And that is exactly what it is supposed to do. Why, it's even in the
manual. (you *have* paid for it, haven't you?)

Well, Beserk can only be found as an item in the registered version
of DOOM, so you must have registered your copy. The manual that comes
with the game - you do have the manual, don't you? - has an entry about
Beserk Packs that ends with "Duration: One Level" Beserk is designed
that way. Since you probably haven't read the manual, you should. It's
pretty funny at places. And besides, it might clear up other
misunderstandings.

So berserk lasts a whole level instead of about 20 Type it a few times in a row. Then get a dictionary and look up the definition of the verb "toggle." :) Jim

Then why the hell (not funny, stop laughing!) does the screen seize to go
red huh? I wouldave thought that if it lasts for the whole level then the screen
should be red all level.

The docs say that it lasts all level, and I'd guess that they have a standard function which overlays a colour for x seconds, plus it's hard to see with it on... -- /* 0F 90 3E 44 F9 13 E7 CC (joj...@descartes.uwaterloo.ca) ** 10 20 44 C8 42 21 08 98 ** 38 40 F9 50 87 C2 1F 30 "Woof bloody woof" - Gaspode the Wonder Dog ** 40 81 12 61 08 84 22 00 (Terry Pratchett, Moving Pictures) */ F9 FA 24 42 11 3F 44 C0
