Pax Imperia 2 looks to be really cool. I don't have time to write
everything I know about it, but here are a few things. IE (the
electronic gaming magazine) has a good talk about it under Blizzard's
interview. It is supposed to be very deep, but you can automate many of
the functions if you don't want to get bogged down.
- very MOO-like with a lot more depth.
- you can create your own race - temperature requirements, atmospheric
requirements, strengths - warriors, industrialists, scientists - and
these qualities will significantly effect gameplay (like what
  planets you can live on)
- massive ship design (very detailed)
- you can control fleet configurations or let the computer do it. (I'm
fuzzy on what combat is like though)
- trade routes, shipping
- huge technology tree (they expect to have about 1500 distinct
  technologies you can acquire)
- more politics and internal problems (I'm a little fuzzy on these)
- Lots of network playability - in REAL-TIME!!??

Questions/doubts:
- Will the gameplay suffer due to the depth of the game?
- What the heck is the combat like?
- How can you have a REAL-TIME multiplayer game of this depth? (It takes
time to design good ships and plan economic stuff)

If anyone knows more, please post. All I know is that, as a long-time
MOO fan, this one looks like a keeper.

Tim

I've seen two different write-ups about this game in S+, and I don't have much
to add, other than it is supposed to be 16-player networkable, runs on Mac or
Windows 95, and I read that it can be played either real-time, OR turn-based.
Looks like a really great game, I am eagerly anticipating it!

When I saw a preview of this game in IE magazine, I thought for
sure the programmers of it infiltrated my brain one night while I was
asleep and sucked all the things I've ever wanted to see in a computer
game out of my brain., and incorporated them in Pax Imperia II. Now,
let's just see how many times it gets delayed.... They said it'll be out
by Christamas... let's hope they mean chistmas 1995.

Actually, Blizzard announced last week in this newsgroup that the game was
being delayed until the 1st quarter of '96 in order to get all of the bugs
worked out, and make sure that it was a quality product prior to releasing it.
Sorry, but we won't be able to play this 'dream game' until after
Christmas sometime....

I got the same feeling with Battlecruiser 3000AD. Unfortunately the Pax
Imperia port (oops, now it's Pax Imperia 2) is getting the Vaporware Effect
almost as much as BC3000AD, Ruler of All Vaporware.
