Pax Imperia 2 looks to be really cool. I don't have time to write everything I know about it, but here are a few things. IE (the electronic gaming magazine) has a good talk about it under Blizzard's interview. It is supposed to be very deep, but you can automate many of the functions if you don't want to get bogged down. - very MOO-like with a lot more depth. - you can create your own race - temperature requirements, atmospheric requirements, strengths - warriors, industrialists, scientists - and these qualities will significantly effect gameplay (like what planets you can live on) - massive ship design (very detailed) - you can control fleet configurations or let the computer do it. (I'm fuzzy on what combat is like though) - trade routes, shipping - huge technology tree (they expect to have about 1500 distinct technologies you can acquire) - more politics and internal problems (I'm a little fuzzy on these) - Lots of network playability - in REAL-TIME!!?? Questions/doubts: - Will the gameplay suffer due to the depth of the game? - What the heck is the combat like? - How can you have a REAL-TIME multiplayer game of this depth? (It takes time to design good ships and plan economic stuff) If anyone knows more, please post. All I know is that, as a long-time MOO fan, this one looks like a keeper. Tim
