Downloaded the Need for Speed demo and I'm pretty amazed. Magic Carpet crawled in SVGA. System Shock crawled in SVGA. I was worried that my P-90 was going to be lame for high resolution stuff. I was wrong. It's the programmers that make the difference, 'cause Need for Speed absolutely smokes in SVGA. Super-smooth scrolling, no jerkiness, and I don't even have a totally bitchen graphics card. Also, the physics of the game are quite nice. One question though. I have a 17" Mag monitor and some games jump to the right side of the screen while running. Most don't, but a small number do. Is this just me, or are others having similar problems? And if so, does anybody know the fix for this? Thanks. Dean

You know, I could have read your reply and actually thought about it intelligently, but you had to be superior and finished it out with a "think before you post" comment. Tell you what, I think I'll "think before I download your FAQs." Why is there such a speed increase with Magic Carpet 2? Becuase the programmers went in and worked on the game engine to speed it up. Don't pass the buck off onto the type of game. The programmers are responsible. Why did we go from Wolfenstein to Doom? The programmers. Why is Doom so fast? The programmers. Before Wolfenstein 3-d came out, nobody would have thought it possible to make such a game. And with your logic, they would have sat on their rumps and not tried to make Wolfenstein because "we can't make 3-d action games run fast." Well, wake up and smell the Quake, dude. Games get better and faster all the time. Programming is the key reason. Dean

Magic Carpet 2 is very smooth too !! Much Much faster than the first !
Really great on my P90 !! By the way, I haven't any problem with my IIYAMA
Vision Master 17 Monitor.

We're talking 3d smoke effects, fully contoured roads, cars texture mapped and rendered so well they look like some kind of SGI animation, skid marks that stay where they are through the entire race, weather effects, decent car AI, texture maps that somehow don't go blocky at close range, scenery items that scale and turn depending on your cars angle, all that and a dozen more things I don't have time to list. The detail of the graphics in NFS just completely blows everything else away on this platform. They aren't some crappy 2D Outrun ripoff shite. It's not limited to 45 degree slopes like SysShock, and as a whole it provides a _much_ more contoured world than said game. Play the game some more before you post. If I'm pictureing what you are saying right, I think what may be happening is that the game is coming up in a resolution/refresh frequency different from what you normally use. You monitor may be set to display that particular frequency off to the side a bit. Perhaps a bit of adjustment would help? Which Mag do you have? I have the MXP17F which has a LCD display that tells me what mode it's running in. Eg: it will state the resolution and refresh rate on a known one, and if it doesn't recognize it, it will tell you the horizontal and vertical refreshes. It's great for finding out what is really happening. I'll be picking up NFS tomorrow provided the store I ordered it from has it. -- Ken Robinson NRNS Incorporated DREnet Network Management Centre Note: I'm likely speaking for myself and nobody else.
