Does anybody know whether Quake 3 is going to be written for BeOS, too?

I very much doubt it. As far as I know BeOS is still in beta stages, so
although it works fine and everything with most things, they are still
working on it. I don't think it has the graphics drivers needed for 3d
acceleration yet either (this is really up to the manufacturers like
Diamond, Creative, etc, and I haven't seen ANY sign of drivers from these
companies for BeOS.)

Although if there are drivers around, maybe somebody with programming
experience could port it to BeOs. I know nothing about actually doing so
though - it might be difficult because it has an entirely new structure, and
has been programmed from the ground up rather than slowly evolving.

I could be wrong though! :)

3D acceleration in in preparation: the next release of BeOS (R5, coming in
summer) will be capable of 3d acceleration based on OpenGL. OpenGL is
already running, but in software mode. It should take no great efforts to
write those OpenGL drivers, because several companies have announced support
for BeOS.
By the way: i have already read in some newsletters etc. that the guys at Be
are already playing Quake II at Be...so why shouldn't it be possible to port
Quake 3??

Cool! I'd love to see a real alternative to Windows come up, and one which
is easy enough to use to become "mainstream". Old Billy Boy has had it too
easy for too long! :) As for OpenGL, I was aware that software mode was
already up and running - but which companies are actually going to invest
money to write drivers for an OS which is almost unheard of? Companies like
Diamond probably don't see a huge market for games in BeOS at this stage.
It'd be great if they did though - i'll have to keep my eyes peeled.

Really? Wow! They must have done the port themselves though, because I
haven't seen a peep about BeOS in the Quake2 news, or from id software...
