Yeah its out. Got it yesterday. Promptly ordered a new video card last night. Chugga chugga. R300 is no match for this game. Was barely playable at 640x480. Looks real sweet on the 24" flat panel(as long as you are not moving...lol). toggleconsole is broken so don't plan on hitting ~ to open the console...instead you have to do ctrl+alt+~ a link to activision forum topics for Quake 4: http://tinyurl.com/7cpxl if you are using a flat panel be sure to set your aspect ratio correctly...most widescreen panels are 16:10 not 16:9 Quake 4 does not natively support widescreen resolutions, however you can configure Quake 4 to use a 16:10 or 16:9 aspect ratio by changing the r_aspectratio cvar in the console (CTRL+ALT+~). Note that using the console is unsupported by Activision. The following values will adjust the aspect ratio: 0 = 4:3 (Standard) 1 = 16:9 2 = 16:10 I'll let you know how it runs when I get my new card(7800GT).

I see it available on the bittorrent site I belong to they didn't have it in Best Buy when I was there... I'm going to EB Games today to buy F.E.A.R., might just go nuts and buy Q4 as well. I can run it at 1024x768 on my 6800 GT with no problems. -- Erik Max Francis && max@alcyone.com && http://www.alcyone.com/max/ San Jose, CA, USA && 37 20 N 121 53 W && AIM erikmaxfrancis I do this for the love of music / Not for the glitter and gold -- India Arie

I got the free t-shirt with a 10.00 pre-order then paid 39.99 for the 4 cd version. I don't do the single player thing so downloading quake4 would be useless to me. I'm the same pf.Zenmasta thats been on this NG for years. $50 is about what I charge for 45 minutes of labor. My copy: LEGAL! cool thanks ducky! I fell asleep about halfway thru the readme. Guess I'll have to read it in shifts. I think I got disheartened when my GFX card was not on the min spec list. sittingduck wrote: > Zenmasta wrote: > > >>toggleconsole is broken so don't plan on hitting ~ to open the >>console...instead you have to do ctrl+alt+~ > > > It's not broken... just not enabled by default. > From the readme: > To enable the console, you have to set this variable: com_allowConsole 1 > Do that, and the ~ works.

My copy: LEGAL! I know you Zen :-) I had it in my head wrong that Quake4 wasn't coming out for another month. I was mostly curious whether or not I'd find it on the shelves today. I thought you knew me. I know I don't hang in IRC at all but I still pop in to get pwnt every once in a while. I didn't notice any copies of the DVD version in there but I was in such a hurry I wasn't really looking either. I am waiting for some tweaking guidance, and I will hopefully be able to make it play a little better. Found a no-cd patch today, I hate having to have a cd in. :)

When you gonna host a server then - DUCKY? :D :D Can't wait to get this over here and jump into a few games with some old-timers from pF/Agqx. Some of the best games I ever had was on your Ra3 and Ctfs servers. I picked up F.E.A.R. and Quake4 today. Got the F.E.A.R. DVD and Q4 on 4CDs. The friggin' F.E.A.R. director's edition DVD, doesn't even come with a DVD case (granted it only costs $5 more than the regular version, so what do you expect, I expect at least a jewel case). Cardboard box and inside the DVD is in a paper sleeve, that's so goddam cheap. Q4 CD version, nice heavy quadruple deep DVD type case with the 4 cds all on one spindle and a decent little booklet. Runs pretty good on my 6800 at 1024x768 and 2xAA. Can't get all my MX1000 buttons working yet in Quake4, first game I've had a problem with, the Logitech software doesn't seem to recognize that Q4 is loaded. -- Steve ¤»Inglo«¤ www.inglostadt.com

I'm gonna have to run by EbGames tomorrow after work and scarf it up :) Batman Begins is also out, gotta get that too! "does it come in black?" Woohoo! On the mx1000, you got profiles? mcg.

Played through the first few levels of the SP campaign. It's fun, so far it reminds me a little of Star Wars: Republic Commando, which I loved. Here's some shots I've taken: http://www.inglostadt.com/q4.htm Screenshots just don't tell the tale though, there are some opneGL guys at the nvnews forums who were playing around with offset mapping in Doom 3, stuff that looked really cool, though not quite right because the textures weren't done for it. Q4 has it, and it's really cool. I've yet to fire up F.E.A.R. much yet, though I've played the demo and thought it was lots of fun. I think F.E.A.R. would be a good game to test your X2 on, lots of physics and AI to strain the processor. -- Steve ¤»Inglo«¤ www.inglostadt.com

Q4, FEAR. Movies too. I've heard some things about FEAR, but haven't even played the demo. I hear it's Big too. Well, I'll see soon enough :) Pushing on the X2 in 32 bit processing mode is not hard to do. Pushing on it in 64 bits? HA! Nothing's done that yet :) Far Cry 64, as maxed out as I can get it. 1280x1024. FR's over 100 most of the time. Absolutely smooth and clean, not even one frame jerk, beautiful. but what's this? NO drivers for any of the peripherals?!~#$ No x64 for a while yet :( McG.

So my tip is DONT BUY quake with no blood... its like french fries with no ketchup. ((know uk got blood too but it was createt in US so i by the US version and get a nicer game package made with paperboard))) quake is the only game i bought. (and the only i need :)) I ever where the first in the shops. Now i got no money. If i dont eat something today i can buy it... Only got a 5800 but on 800x600 it has to work fine (like doom). New pc is coming too (eat nothing for the next year) :) greets Lis

Good story, action, effects. They did set it up for sequels too. You'll love the Tumbler, "does it come in black?". The laptop I got wasn't for gaming. It's only 1.5 ghz mobile celly. It's pretty good for the photo and imaging on the fly, playing DVD movies and burning data disks when i'm out. I got in so late yesterday I didn't even install any of the games, will tonight and give them a look :) McG.

I got Q4 and FEAR at EBgames, they had no DvD versions of either. The guys there said I should try Circuit city, they'd likely have it. That was my next stop on the way home anyway. I checked, no FEAR, no Quake4. At all. Yet. But they did have RoE so I got that. And my movies. And my 'afterthought', the 2nd 930B, which I'm typing this on while other stuff is open on the other :o))) I'm not seeing any bad pixels so far. If none, then this will be the 4th pixel perfect LCD I've bought. Q4 on cd's was $49.95 and FEAR was $39.95 I think. Monitor is installed and set up pretty good now...time to install some games! McG.

The 7800GT I ordered worked out well. Play is smooth at 1600x1200. sittingduck wrote: > Zenmasta wrote: > > >>cool thanks ducky! >> >>I fell asleep about halfway thru the readme. I've been playing it on my LCD and some areas (especially in the beginning levels) are a little darker than I'd prefer because of what LCDs do, but it's no where near THAT dark.
