Because it's going to be a mostly internet multiplayer game, id are
focusing on reducing lag. There will be much more client-side prediction
than in Quake II.

I don't think the graphics will be a source of lag since they will be
handled by the required accelerator cards.

It isn't amazing visuals which cause lag - that's up to your cpu. Lag is
caused by not having enough bandwidth to send all the info to you over the
phone line or whatever. Quake3 IS going to need more bandwidth than Q2, (id
has admitted that), but there are going to be lots of lag-reducing tricks
used to make online gaming even better. These include things like not having
to wait for the server to tell your computer which player animation frame to
do next - it just tells it to do the "jump" animation, and your computer
will do it. That should cut bandwidth, and make a bit more room for the
extra bandwidth-hungry features they're adding.

BTW, I think I read somewhere that they are going to TRY and support 28.8k,
but it wasn't looking great at this stage. Personally, given that Quake2 is
SUPPOSED to support 28.8k, but is pretty shocking online in a big fight, I
wouldn't get too optimistic... :(

Hello

Lag due to graphics will only be an issue if your pc can't handle it. Your
computer handles graphics, they are not transmitted over your connection.
