for those of you who are just dying for a small update on the
progress of said game, here you go. quothe john romero.

LATEST NEWS:

We're working on Quake! That's right! Most of the textures for the
first episode are finished - Kevin and Adrian have been clicking wildly
for a while. Now they are about ready to fire up the Indigo2's and
start modeling!

Michael Abrash, our ProgrammingGod (tm), is here and pumping away on
some really complex BSP/beamtree code for Quake's refresh! Carmack
and Abrash just found a way (on Pentiums only) to interleave the refresh
code so all our DIVs are FREE!!!! Even though Quake's architecture is
more complex than DOOM's, Quake's refresh will be faster than DOOM's.
No Shit.

not much, but hey, it's something, right?
right. later.

Yup... iD should check with MUDders and Network Game Administrators.. about
how they set up the servers to handle the rules.. for engaging and interaction.

Usually in the case of MUDs they are either PKill muds or NOT.
OR they have FLAGS that only certain people (say in Clans/TEAMS) are
PKillable (PlayerStealing too) but they gain the fun of competition and
perhaps Clan safehouses etc,

OR they have certain PK areas. (ARENAS) where people can PKill without
losing all their Items/Powers... or some such thing.

Others have WARS.. where the entire MUD becomes PKill and each login
automatically gets put on whatever team needs the player and for
a certain time limit or when one team wins... the MUD is closed to
outsiders until the war is over and then people can re-log on and
try again.

BUT then again IF the server code is freely availble like a MUD and
can be put on servers easily... then the matter is moot because
everyone can configure their server the way they want.

Of course hopefully there will be a metaserver.idsoftware.com
that keeps track of all the Quake servers that are up.
Something like NETREK.

*shrug* loooking forward to it.
actually I am looking forward to Heretic 2. =)
Quake will be out in Early 96 I bet.

hmmm... 1999 is coming fast... beware the computers that
crash when the year turns to '00... =)

Bye.
