To all those people dying to play Quake: have you gotten around to playing Descent? I think you will be pretty surprised. A good percentage of the stuff that id has said will be in Quake is already in Descent. The main difference that comes to mind is that in Quake your actual player will (presumably) be able to swing his arms, turn his head, etc., whereas in Descent, you're just a solid spaceship. Also, Descent is pretty low-res, (a bit worse than doom, I think), although I can't imagine that Quake will have much higher resolution if it wishes to be reasonably fast. In any case, Descent is totally mind-blowing. We're talking full 3d with a full 3d auto-map. (The auto-map is totally amazing.) Once you play it, you will think the doom keyboard controls are for babies. The rendering speed is very fast, and network mode blows away networked doom by light-years. This is definately a new generation of game. I would imagine that the folks who made Descent could (hypothetically) come up with a much better game than Quake by the time December rolls around, considering that they are already halfway there. -- Jonathan Litt littlitt@mit.edu

the light in Descent rocks.. I think it's goraud shaded. Fire a missle
down a dark hallway and you'll see what I mean. I REALLY hope that Quake
will support 3DS meshes or AutoCad .DXF files for monsters and stuff like
that.. kinda like a level editor for doom.

Is Interplay really making a 3-d Quake type of game right now? They sure would be wise to do so, but they better get it out before Quake because no one will want anything but Quake after it is released.
