Xserver cannot open pointer device

I have the following problem:
After some time of inactivity (nobody is logged in) my VUE login doesn't
allow to get in to the VUE environment. Simply speaking display is frozen
when I try to enter my login name. After some verification I've found that
Xserver is not running and vuelogin cannot start a new one.
/usr/vue/config/Xerrors contains multiple messages like that:

Couldn't open X pointer device! Is one attached?

reported by Xserver.

I run 9.05 and cannot move at the moment.
My Xserver is: -r-xr-xr-x 1 bin bin 745472 Mar 4 13:00 X
and contains:
@(#)X Window System, Version 11 HP-UX 9.* SRC_FEB96 R5+
@(#)(build date: Wed Jan 10 14:47:27 PST 1996)
(extracted by: strings /usr/bin/X11/X | grep ^@)

Should I change the Xserver alone or something more?
Where to get it (for free)?

Please answer directly. I'd like to not overseen any replies to this
subject (articles expire quickly).

Thanks in advance,
Darek

I think I should add one thing to my previous posting on the same subject.

Everything is perfectly OK with permissions for mouse device in /dev.
The system starts w/o any problems, users can log in (keyboard and
mouse work correctly). Next user logs out and when somebody wants again
to log in, (s)he sees frozen display. The only way (at least, I didn't
found any tool to do it) to recover from this is to switch workstation off
and on again. Normal reboot (machine stays on all the time) is not enough.
I expect one instance of Xserver changes the state of the mouse device and
next instance started by vuelogin is unable to reset device to the valid
state what end up with the message mentioned and server termination.

Like previously, please write directly if you have any suggestions.

Thanks,
Darek
