Falcon 3.0 modem/direct play?

I would like to hear from people who have played Falcon between two
computers. A friend and I tried playing at 2400 baud but found it
to be very `jumpy' in the padlock view. Is this typical?

Has anyone tried at 9600 baud or better yet with a null cable? (I
had heard rumours that there are bugs in the direct connection
protocol.)

Thanks in advance,

I haven't tried it yet, but I'd be willing to play falcon
with anyone who is willing to call the san jose area.
I live in the 408 area code. Send email if interested.

I played falcon 3.0 on two 486 via null modem. My patch level is only "A",
but falcon locked up frequently and the sync between planes often lagged up
to two seconds. (I know this, becuse I could see both monitors at the same
time.) For example, my friend would be on my tail, fire, I would explode,
he would celibrate that he blew me up, and then, I would blow up. I was
very unimpressed with this feature. We used transfer rates of 19200 bps,
and 38400 bps.

I've played a 386 40mhz and a 486 33mhz with a null modem cable. I did
have lock-ups with the original version A but we had no trouble with version
C. I am going to try version D this weekend hopefully ( right Will? ).
Toting around a full machine to friends houses is cumbersome but playing
this game with two players is a heck of a lot of fun. I found modem play
impossibly slow, so for me null-modem connection is the only way to go.
The only flight sim I'll play over a modem is F-29.
