X-COM Interceptor: Is is a space-sim or a strategy game?

Anyone check out X-Com Interceptor yet? I think this one could be fun. The more I think about it the more it's starting to sound like a Privateer style game. Space combat with resource management and ship and base building. The 1950's theme is a little weird but I can live with it. If the mission variety is good it could be a good space-sim. -Krud

In the Tome of Sivar, below "Killjoy was here," "Krud" <au...@nospam.mindspring.com> scrawled: > Anyone check out X-Com Interceptor yet? I think this one could be fun. (or at least that's what the demo seems like at first glance... I've not played it much yet.) Basically connect a space-flight sim with the base management of XCom1/2. So far I think it's worth the time it took to download, and will more than likely invest in it when the full game comes out. Of course, YMMV... that's just my opinion. > -Krud Death ICQ UIN: 3908950 <http://wwp.mirabilis.com/3908950> Write to your congressman and ask them if they support Representative Chris Smith's "Netizen's Protection Act of 1997" (H.R. 1748). If not, ask why they feel your mailbox should be used like public property.

I imagine once I get better weapons it won't be as difficult. A better OFF-HUD indicator would help. One of my wingmen killed a sectoid fighter and said, "that one was for snatching Mulder's sister" :) -Krud

"Krud" <au...@nospam.mindspring.com> spoke thusly: >I like it, but it's a little too hard. The sectoid ships are too fast. I >imagine once I get better weapons it won't be as difficult. A better OFF-HUD >indicator would help. X-Com Interceptor seems to have great potential. But I also found it WAY TOO hard. Those sectoid ships are so fast, I'm finding myself chasing the visual indicator on my HUD more than chasing an actual visual target. I could only finish the demo mission (on the lowest difficulty) after employing two wingmen and losing both. Now this isn't a complaint about the flight engine or AI, but the enemy ships are just way too powerful and fast. Picture chasing a TIE Defender with a Y-Wing and you'll see what I mean. There's one quasi-cool thing about the demo. The music. For those of you that missed the event-driven IMuse MIDI of the classic X-Wing /TIE games but loathe the overrepeated use of Redbook CD audio tracks; X-Com Intercpetor utilizes a neat compromise. Looped music WAV files, (of decent quality) event-driven a lot like I-Muse's. Fast, driving soundtrack not unlike something outta "Mars Attacks!" >One of my wingmen killed a sectoid fighter and said, "that one was for >snatching Mulder's sister" :) Heh heh...One of my wingmen yelped "E.T. go BOOM!" and I think I also heard a Cartman-esque "Kick Ass" in there too. *****Saturn S. The combination sundial/calender read Sun, 3 May 1998 22:52:02 -0400, and that is the moment when "Krud" <au...@nospam.mindspring.com> confessed the following after being sodomized by a band of dwarves courtesy of Neo Rubicant: >I like it, but it's a little too hard. The sectoid ships are too fast. I >imagine once I get better weapons it won't be as difficult. A better OFF-HUD >indicator would help. I found that using the ship with the gatling laser helped a LOT, since you can basically pepper the empty space between the stars with laser fire as inaccurately as you want, :) >One of my wingmen killed a sectoid fighter and said, "that one was for >snatching Mulder's sister" :) > >-Krud > Aw man, that's it, I'm replaying the demo just to get that sound byte, :) Thierry Nguyen. Heh, heh, that was a good one :) -Krud
