Hi, I know games like Minecraft that use procedural generation to generate the game worlds use a seed to determine the layout of the game world, but what determines how many areas are in each game world that gets generated?

In Minecraft, as I understand it, new areas (chunks) are automatically added to the world as the player moves near them. Yes, that's what you do if you want an infinite world. There will generally be a formula that generates a 'sub-seed' for every possible area, but these might not actually be generated until someone comes near. Of course you can also decide the size of the world from the start (and that might or might not depend on the seed). For example if you were doing a roguelike, you might say there will be randomly 12-14 levels, with the boss always on the bottom one. - Gerry Quinn --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus
