Infinity games did not allow zoom and rotate which has become possible
with the move to 3d also they did not support 1080p and UHD, most of
them afair were 480 and most of them did not have extensive speech. The
problem there really is the artwork, less unity, which simply takes more
space given the higher resolutions and full 3d and also that a 3d engine
simple needs more horsepower than a 2d engine.

Not that Unity really is that fast it is one of the slower engines, that
will change however with Unity 5.

I may have some trouble running it. I have an old I7-920 o'c'd to 3.65.
Memory is 6GB, but I have a GTX770. The OS isn't an issue.

14GB isn't a problem though. DA:I shows up to be 25.7 GB on my games
drive. Unity or not, I'm looking forward to the game. Character creation
looks like an all day job. This is my kinda fun.

Is 64bit enforcement really an issue nowadays?
Seriously we are 15 years past the mark
that AMD/Intel have moved to 64 bit instruction sets and most people
nowadays have moved to 64 bit operating systems as well.

64 bit isn't an issue for me. I got my key and the download which was
18GB and took a bit over 30 mins. The sys req in the manual is for
minimum pc's but the ante was upped a good deal online because the sys
reqs there are the recommended ones. 25GB of free space is recommended.
I only have 6GB of RAM so I'll probably have to turn off AA, lower the
resolution and some other stuff so the game won't choke until I get the
new box

I do like how the "no-DRM" issue was handled. Anyhow, I'm looking
forward to tomorrow when the game is unlocked.

It's good to have an "old-school" type CRPG back in the limelight.

What do you want to rotate with 2D backgrounds? Zoom to enjoy ugliness of Unity models? Really?
So it is 1920x1080 (or what is native resolution) vs 800x600.
Do you realize how much more powerful modern computers comparing with (one core) Pentium II 400MHz,
64MB RAM and 4MB VRAM?

I smash all your defense of this travesty with just one example:
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood:

Big beautiful Rome, full of sound, with a lot of NPCs doing _different_ (often unpredictable)
things, all in all environment is simply gorgeous. There you want to rotate and zoom to
enjoy views. Guess what, it has much more modest system requirements, happy with 32 bits,
happy with 1GB VRAM, happy with 2GB RAM. What Unity game would you dare to compare with
the Brotherhood?

So you had fine wine $25 for bottle, now they sell cheap soda for $100 (arguing that
$25 price is outdated). Ready to shell out money just because you can afford it?
I am not. I despise all that Unity flummery. Fuck them.

Well I have 16 Gigs of Ram and an NVidia 660 on a core i5 so I am well
prepared for the game.
Whatever Andrews problems with Unity are, he is losing a fight there,
Units is there to stay and it is very popular, no matter how much he
hates it.

We will see that, currently porting of Wasteland 2 and Dreamfall
Chapters is on its way, we will see how much Unity 5 will bring with
those two games, I guess.

Seems like the first reviews are in and they are very favorable.

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/tag/pillars-of-eternity/

Oh thank goodness. After 77,000 backers, $4 million raised and nearly
three years in development, Obsidian’s Pillars Of Eternity [official
site] is here, and it’s just stunning.

Other scores:

http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/pillars-of-eternity/critic-reviews
Many of them in the 100 and 90s range

Seems like we have another classic at our hands even if it uses Unity ;-)

yeah, according metacritic Inquisition is another classic, sure.
Also, I think you still do not get it, Unity = no mods.

Ok I had a quick look at the game, performance is excellent on my
machine (Core I5 8 Gig Ram NVidia 660). I have tried it in full hd and
get constant 60fps and smooth scrolling. So I dont think the game is to
demanding. Given that it uses 2d Backgrounds and 3d for everything else
I personally see the min requirements more like average requirements,
and yes you can zoom seamlessly but rotation is not possible give its
2d-3d nature.

The game scales up to 4k btw. so I assume the artwork is optimized for
high res which explains the big download.

Ok 4k works fine btw. which is amazing
given my measly graphics card, so my assumption was right
the game really is not that demanding.

Ok I just checked the minimum requirements which
fortunately were added as textfile to the install folder.

Dual Core CPU 2.5GHZ
4Gig Ram
14 Gig of Free HD space
Ati Radeon HD 4850 or NVidia 9600
Keyboard
Mouse

What Andrew posted were the recommended hardware requirements. I was
expecting that given that the game performs very well on my rig.

The game runs fine for me as well..i7 920 o'clocked to 3.65, GTX 770,
but only 6GB ram; ran into an audio glitch tho' at the campsite; the
Help scroll when minimized caused a sound like a small engine running;
was very annoying; plenty of talk about it @ Steam; so for now, full
sized help screen pop-ups or disable it.

I saw no choking of the game like I had with DA:I, but I'm not that far
into it either; Playing a Female, Moon Godlike Druid and having a lot of
fun. Running on 4K too.

Btw. a lot of more reviews are in, not a single negative one,
most reviews are in the 90s/100s range a small number of them in the 80s
range (I think only one).

Obsidian really has released a winner.

I hope it sells well Obsidian really needs the money, they almost went
bankrupt before the Kickstarter campagin, because one of their projects
was shut down by a publisher. The Kickstarter basically saved their lifes.

I will stop playing the game for now, since I do not have time for a 60
hours rpg for now. Also I usually wait for a few patches until I start a
game.

I started with Southpark, Stick of Truth yesterday instead, which is
longer on my backlog and shorter.

Enjoy your other games....I played several hours last night. Back at it
this AM; had to back off the 4K tho'. Too much for my rig as the game's
action became more intense, but agree it's a winner.

This is my dilemma with any single player game. If it requires more
than 15 hours to complete, and requires some sort of continuity (i.e.
playing every day or two in order to stay engaged with the story),
it's just going to be problematic for my lifestyle.

Dying Light took me something like 20 hours to finish the campaign
with no sidequests, and while I enjoyed the ride it felt about twice
as long as any FPS campaign I've played in recent memory.

There have been multiplayer games that I've played for hundreds of
hours, but that involves learning some tactics, and applying those
tactics in different situations over weeks or months, it's not the
same as trying to keep track of a story and which character is doing
what and which quest I'm on and why.

60 hour campaign? I don't know how anyone does it.

I don't think it looks particularly Hardware demanding.
4GB Ram minimum - but I see people who have it on Windows XP
The new 1.03 patch cures much but is reported to drop performance
considerably
until settings checked & reset.

Maybe not for me . I'm not to comfortable about all reviews / comments

its good 'cause its 'just like the Old Time Baldur's Gate - etc.' as I did
not like the design style of that game generation
& don't have the patience for lots-a-stat-fiddling.

I didn't notice much of a drop in performance after the update myself. I
enjoy character development alot. It's one of my favorite things to do
in a game. I don't fiddle a lot though. I never read a lot about what is
a recommended stat to increase. I go by what I think will be fun and
many times it doesn't work out and I end up in the boneyard, but I just
love playing that way. As result, I start games over a lot and I have a
ton of titles that I play partially through and don't finish, my bad.

I did play KOA, too. I didn't like its look or feel much, but perhaps I
didn't give it much of a chance. It had a fairytale-y feel about it. Now
waiting for the The Witcher and then Tides, Shroud of the Avatar, etc,
etc, .And then There's DA:I. I'm just 1/4 of the way through
