In FO1 by the time you are level 10 your character is probably a killing machine... able to take out just about anything in one or two shots... But, they made FO2 to be a longer game... so part of that involved toning down the combat system. Alot of people suggest those perks like more crits or sniper, etc... things to get you more crits... but you don't need those... its misleading abit. If you are high level and highly skilled in a weapon you'll do alot more crits no matter what your luck or perks are (ie: both times i played thru the game I never took any 'extra crit' perk, and I had a luck of 2 and a luck of 3... yet after about level 12 I would get a critical hit about 4 out of 5 times if I did a called shot to the eyes (at that point I had a small guns skill of about 130%)) Best reccomendation I can make for combat in FO2 is... get a good skill in a weapon and go for targetted shots (no matter what weapon you use... melee, unarmed or a gun) When I played FO2 I knew I was gonna go for a gun toting type... so I made sure I took the Agility of 10 for the 10AP a round... and then took the Bonus Rate of Fire perk later on... combine that with the perks that let you move or bonus AP and you can move around in a turn (move closer, move away or find cover... all handy actions) and still peel off 2 targetted shots at your opponents) As for skills themselves... in FO2 I went for small arms and energy weapons (as my tag skills)... near the end of the game my big guns skills was still 0% (later in the game those big guns are just too useless... everybody has so much armour that the only way you can hurt them is with called shots... and you can target a shot with an autocannon or a rocket launcher...) Otherwise, not much else you can say... the game is tough at the lower levels... I kinda like it that way tho... it makes things just more of an accomplishment when you succeed... What'll probably help is... tag your small guns skill at character generation... then for levels 1 to 3 spend all your skill points on it. That'll pretty much get you a decent combat skill and by then you can start working on other skills (actually you could devote all your skill points up to level 5 really, the levels come pretty easily early on... with little risk to your character) Augustus
