Neat and Helpful X-Wing Bug

Maybe it's common knowledge, but I just thought I should share an
interesting bug in X-Wing.

On the training course, it is possible to shoot out the turrets that shoot
at you from behind on levels 7 and up without turning around. Just shoot
at them through the walls. If you see a quick explosion it means that you
hit it. I noticed that this works better from far away than close up, but
anyway, it has proved really helpful in later levels. I think I scored
over 210,000 on the A-wing training course.

Actually, I don't believe this is a bug. The walls are holograms, after
all.

Yes but the really wierd thing is that *YOU* can't pass through them even tho
their shots and yours can pass through them; i.e., if you hit the hologram
base, you stop (you've hit the wall) but you can still shoot through it.

Go figure.

Maybe your ship's computers are designed to bring your ship to a halt
if it senses that you have 'hit' a gate or the floor. They probably also
decide if you have been 'hit' by the laser from the targets and adjust your
shield display accordingly (and simulate system damage if need be).
Of course, this doesn't explain the visible damage to your cockpit if
you're hit when your shields are down. (Hmmm, hologram projection unit
on the visor of your helmet? Yeah, that's it. Must be... )

BTW, it is possible to go through the floor. Sometimes when you crash
into the platform, you suddenly find yourself underneath it. It can be
quite disorienting.

Of course, I fear for the mental state of anyone who starts to worry about
the inconsistency of games. There are just too many for the human mind to
comprehend :-)
