I downloaded the shareware/demo version of ABUSE. I wasnt expecting much. But I must say that the GFX are very well done, the action is excellent and the overall result is top notch. It reminded me of the Turrican series and Obliterator from that company that was supposedly going to be one of the partners in the Triad (no, not the chinese gangster group.) (you, know, the one that made excellent intros but lousy gameplay wares ?!?!) (ohhh yeah ... psygnosis or something ) But why was the game coded in LISP ? because for a game like that, even on a 486, there are screens where more than 4 moving objects will slow that action down. On an old 8 bitter like the c-64 or the game gear, or even the old oink-tendo NES, games like that didnt need VLB,PCI, turbo processor and had more than adrenaline pumping factor. It is said that the LISP interpreter is included in the prg. In what language was it coded ? C? C++ ? pascal ? Basic ? Preciously hand coded in machine language ? In any case, why was the game called abuse ? the main character looks like a Predator (look at the helmet) and the enemy looks like an "Alien" entity. (If you have ever seen any ANTs that look like those creatures, tell me where and I'll pay big bucks to look at them and collect a few of them to create my own ant oops .... alien farm). It should have been Aliens vs. Predator. Abuse .... what a cheezy name ... But the game is great !!! .. I am thinking about registering ... The thing that bothers me the most is that "die and continue from the last saved game ...." Hey !!! this is a PC, not a nin-inuendo. (infinite continues sucks !!!!) Walt

And the name IS cheezy, but what's *YOUR* name? Kill the Aliens? I think the name Abuse is cool..."Alien Destroyer" "Liberator" now those are cheesy. The title Abuse conjures the thought of constantly pounding the shit outta the aliens before they can react...sets me in the mood.. what would you call it? -- crymson

The game is coded in C++, but there are objects in the game which are
described in LISP code.
It is said that the LISP interpreter is included in the prg.
In what language was it coded ? C? C++ ? pascal ? Basic ?
Preciously hand coded in machine language ?
C++
In any case, why was the game called abuse ? the main character looks like
a Predator (look at the helmet) and the enemy looks like an "Alien" entity.
(If you have ever seen any ANTs that look like those creatures, tell me
where and I'll pay big bucks to look at them and collect a few of them

It should have been Aliens vs. Predator.
I think the character on the title screen is an ANT. ANT is probably an
acronym.
Abuse .... what a cheezy name ...
But the game is great !!! .. I am thinking about registering ...
The thing that bothers me the most is that "die and continue from the
last saved game ...." Hey !!! this is a PC, not a nin-inuendo.

I agree, the game is definitely the best 2D-scroller yet. *Duck*
On a PC at least.

I used to know someone who had an Amiga and was for the most part the hall arcade game master. Abuse reminded me immediatly of some of the Amiga sid-scrollers...but better - you could actually play them (some Amiga games went all out for graphics and sound...but playability of these games sucked) Still, good job! I like the game and the fact that Crack Dot Com included a level editor along with the demo - shows marketting knowledge. Doug
