It looks like a good buy. I have MW2 and like it, but I was wondering if Earthsiege was any good?

It's like comparing Wolfenstein 3D to Doom II, EarthSeige at the time was great but it fails miserably compared to MW2. It's a _much_ slower engine and the control leaves little to be desired. Unless you're talking fire sale, I'd steer clear.

In article <42n1u9$o...@maverick.tad.eds.com>, will...@tpd.eds.com says... > Hey, that was what I was wondering but vice versa. > MWII looks good from what I've seen but Earhsiege > has alot more detail to the mechs and terrain. It also now has an expansion Earthsiege sucked as far as game-play was concerned. (a) No training available. You *could* run individual missions vs. campaign mode. But, you couldn't even run the same mission more than three times. How do you get good at it if you only have 3 shots to get it right? (b) Way too hard. I've heard that people with foot pedals and a joystick were able to succeed on some of the missions, after several weeks of effort. But it wasn't my idea of a fun time. I usually like to play a game all the way through on "easy" or "medium" mode once before trying it on "impossible" mode. In Earthsiege, you never had that choice. You could change your mech to be invincible, but that's not really the same thing. I think that even the people who like to brag about how "easy" some games are will fall silent in that regar when it comes to EarthSiege. MechWarrior 2, on the other hand, was no cakewalk, even on Medium mode, but it wasn't impossible to win either. And if you wanted more challenge than that, you could always switch to Hard mode and use fewer / smaller mechs on your missions. JDA

I'm no hotshot games player (hell, I can't even complete doom2). But I managed to complete ES in under a week. The ending is shit. All that happens after the final mission (not the hardest) is that you are told that you have changed the flow of the war and that your side wins! Its been 9 months since I finished it, but general tips are, 1. Don't have your radar on continuosly. 2. Use chain guns instead of lasers. 3. Don't charger heavier mechs then youself. 4. Aim at their weapons, then their legs. Don't worry about salvage to much. 5. Your wingmen are thick as pigshit. You end up helping them half the time. Don't send then into combat before you scout the area. Don't send 'fire at will' until last minute. 6. Save after every mission. 7. Pratice, you'll need more than one shot at most missions.
