No kidding, you don't know much about programming. DOOM _IS_ in VGA! It
runns in 320x200x256 color mode, which is VGA.

Afraid not. According to Id, there isn't enough of an installed base of VGA
equipted computers to make a VGA version profitable. Until there are, Doom
will be strictly an ANSI text based game. However, I did hear a rumer that
someone is trying to hack Doom to work in CGA mode. We can only hope!

No, Id has no intention of releasing anything but the monochrome
version, although they did mention possibly a CGA port by another
company.

Like duh stupid question. What the hell video mode do you think it
runs in?

Maybe the writer meant higher resolution VGA. He would probably appreciate an
honest answer rather than a flame. Would you answer this question the same
way if you met him face to face and he asked it? I don't understand what
makes people think that communicating over the net requires a different answer
than face to face, unless people are generally this snide.

[I'm sure I'll get flamed for this one. I'm just sick of seeing these kinds
of responses. It probably won't do any good, anyway.]

Well, I think most of us recognized what the original poster was trying
to say. He confused SVGA with VGA. We're not all computer geniuses, y'know.

(And if you really wanna get picky, Doom is actually running in MCGA
mode, which most VGA/SVGA boards support.)

Yes, DOOM is in VGA. I, for one, would LOVE to see DOOM in a Super VGA
mode. Here I am with a 1MB Diamond Viper video card being used at
half-mast. Perhaps there's a Super VGA version in the horizon? ;>

This guy may have been joking. But still, he may have meant a REAL vga
mode. 8^) You know, like 640x480x256. That would look very cool, but
would probably be unplayable on most or all machines (well, at the least
it would be slow). Doom is a serious resource hog (see Windows), and
quaddrupling the number of pixels is not going to help matters. Perhaps
the really high-end machines like the Pentium (tm) could handle it. Of
course the video cards would have to be 'top of the line' too. Don't look
for it anytime soon. 8^)

It too easy to blast away at a computer screen. Put a human in front of these
people and they're really nice. Too bad, soooo sad.

I don't expect flamage. But you're probably right - It won't do any good.

Excuse me, but DOOM is already VGA. It was from the beginning. Unless, you
meant SVGA?

Woah.. a bit sensitive, are we? Come on, he did give an honest answer to a
question that may be "stupid" to some of us. And the answer wasn't THAT
bad... it could have been much worse, like "hey, idiot! Have you had your
head up your a@@ for the past half decade?" (Just an example).

BTW, your post also technically qualifies as a flame. ;)

Anyways, a lot of people on the net are just indifferent to others for the
very reason you stated: they will probably never come face to face with the
other individual. Therefore, they may seem rude sometimes (or a lot of
times). Kind of sad, but true.

No offense, but I don't think you know what VGA is. Doom is Vga! You
might be thinking of SVGA. Look closly at the Doom title screen. You
cant tell me that you can count only 16 colors used. Just to try it out,
you can type DOOM -devparm to load up Doom. When you get to the title
screen press F1. This will capture the screen to a PCX file. Use a paint
program to open the PCX file. When you go to look at its statistics it
should say something like 320x240x256. Which means the width and the
height and finally the colors. If I'm correct, 320x200x256 is a Vga
mode. Ega can't display all those colors. I personally would like to see
an Svga version of Doom, but None are in the works. BTW, the title
screen doesn't look that bad. In fact, I like it.

You must've missed that last several hundred posts :)

DOOM is VGA. Low res, high color, sure. VGA nevertheless. Perhaps, like
me, you wish to see a higher res version like 800x600 (!). Just imagine
watching the arteries melt from plasma fire! ;>
