While I liked Planescape: Torment overall, I did think it was overrated. You really had to like the characters to the point where everything else doesn't matter as much to think it was great game. As I recall while the combat wasn't much write home about, but there was some good bits here and there. I remember the fight against the inteligent rats being challenging, and as JAB mentioned the last quarter of the game is mostly one long linear run of combat, with a big wall of text thrown in the middle.
