Read the thread below, but for some reason Google won't let me post a
response in that thread.

Anybody heard any more about this or seen a demo, or something?
According to EBGames.com, it's due out next week. While I'd still
really like to see combat use a JA2-style engine, I have high hopes
for this. One thing that worries me is the low number of agents
combined with the real-time combat. For me, real-time combat doesn't
lend itself well to keeping agents alive. That said, X-Com/TFTD
didn't lend itself to keeping agents alive, either, so I suppose it's
a non-issue. :)

Anybody going to be early adopters for this? I probably will be. :)

With the system they use (pause every time anything happens) having more
than 7 agents would be MEGA ANNOYING. I think you will be able to have
up to 14 agents at your base though.
BTW there should be a new JA2 'stand alone addon' coming out next year.

Found some more info on the game this morning. Some good news and
some bad news as far as I was concerned. As to how many agents you
control, I agree with you about controlling so many. What I meant was
more that since individual squad members are seemingly so few, you
can't really use rookies as decoys, or what not. So, no arguments as
to whether its better to use a tank or rookies because they're
cheaper. :) In early Xcom terror missions, I was overjoyed to
complete the mission with half my squad still alive. This doesn't
seem to allow for that type of thing. It's not necessarily a bad
thing. I assume combat will not be quite as deadly to agents as it
was with Xcom/TFTD.

> BTW there should be a new JA2 'stand alone addon' coming out next year.

Next year? I thought I had heard end of this year. Hope you're
wrong. Can't have too many squad-level tactical combat games. :)

Thanks.

Welcome to the world of UFO:AM's dumbed down gameplay :(

Probably. I don't remember. I'm surprised there aren't more fan strategy
games.

Well, here is the correct URL to the company developing it:
http://www.ufo-aftermath.com/pages/headquarters.html

It doesn't mention a release date.

On a related note, I heard someone has been trying to acquire the
X-COM IP from Atari (since the time they were still Infogrames!), but
though they have no plans to develop any games in the series, they
won't sell it. So, for the time being, there won't be any more games
in the true X-COM pedigree...

EB says the release date is the 29th of this month. I saw a message
somewhere that said it had gone gold, so that's probably pretty
accurate. Have it pre-ordered, but only because I accidentally bought
something I already had (doh!) and could only return it for credit, so
I figured I'd be better off putting it towards Aftermath.

My opinion of Atari is not very high at the moment. First, they
haven't contracted the developers of The Temple of Elemental Evil to
do a patch. It's a very promising game and a good patch would make it
a great game. At least the developers have all but stated they'll do
an unofficial patch if they're not authorized by Atari to do one. I
truly just do not understand the mindset that refuses to publish
patches for games. And now this. Grrr.

According to www.ufo-aftermath.com the UK release date is the 3rd of
October[1] (this Friday for peeps too lazy to look at a calendar *g*).
I've not heard anything of a demo though.... Does anyone know if one
is going to be available? The ones for UFO:Enemy Unknown on the
PCFormat coverdisks were as addictive as crack[2]....

[1] if anyone knows of anywhere prepared to sell it earlier I'd be
interested to know... I'm impatient at the best of times but this is
unbearable!

[2] allegedly, of course.
