Don't it just suck that you will have to pay a monthly subscription fee just to play World of Warcraft on line. I can see where the company is coming from since they are providing the servers to play on but why start now with the best game you have come out with. So what does everyone else think? Do think WoW should be free and possibly ask for donations to play online or should they have a flat monthly fee whether you play the game once a month or 24-7? -- Sandman C & D Computers Network Administrator

I think that any surprise expressed at the idea that WoW would have a monthly fee must be disingenuous, given the state of MMORPGs today. That said, I'll gladly pay the fee if WoW lives up to my expectations. -- Elizabeth D. Its just insane to think someone would make a -free- MMORPG.. Ok, yeah you did buy the disk, thats a one time cash thing for bliz. What happends 2-3 years down the road when nobody really buys it, server costs are through the roof? It becomes a drain, you wont see a free MMORPG that has any scrap of quality anytime soon.

I'm going to try and beta test WoW just so I can have played it, but I flat out refuse to pay monthly for something like that. Part of the allure of computer games is the ability to leave them alone for a while and come back later to play more, and *not* be charged for the unused time. I'd be willing to make donations here and there to keep battle.net free, but I'd only make them when I was actively playing. The only way I'd pay for WoW is if it was metered by actual play time, since then I'd get my money's worth and not waste cash when I've got other concerns. /end starving college student rant -pogle

Maybe just you will not. Even if you have a pirated version you still need to have an account that is paid for to play the game on their servers.

Uh, MMORPG emulation servers -are not- that popular at the time. The only games I can even think of with emulation servers are UO and EQ these are both old and popular so I doubt you can find a way around the WoW payment, gl

I can't believe that people would quibble over paying $10.00/ month for
this. I'm by no means rich... lower middle class really, but this is about
what you'd pay for a movie and a coke. People don't balk at paying $10.00
for 2 hours of entertainment, but complain when they pay the same amount for
something that will likely entertain them for upwards of 20-100 hours a
month?!? <Boggles>

As you cant TEST games like this b4, a monthly fee would be the only way to go. And YESS, i will never forget Bethesda Software with Daggerfall. Excellent previews, a rpg game released while anything past hour 4 wasnt programmed yet. Amazing. Another isssue is graphics. Ever saw an mmorg with gfx, that doesnt complety suck ? I played Diablo 2 for a very long time, so it will be very expensive even without a package price.. if its good. tom

I played Ultima Online for 3 years, Daoc for 1 month, tryed some other mmorpg games - none was as good as UO - That game had something that was worth paying for If it want to play football i have to pay some money to a club for using balls, foodballfield and stuff like that - so whats wrong paying for a game ? Most mmorpg games you can pay some money each month or use gametime to pay for the time you are online - if you play 2 hours / month youll pay less than one who play 200 hours :) nice system for those who play little Gismo

Who will want to play on free servers when you those will be shut down in 1-2 months? In this game, time will maters, you will grow stronger, grow alliance, friends and enemies.. It's impossible to enjoye when you have to start over at 2 months interval. It would be like to reborn again without remembering anything...

Well, you should ask this question to the 400 thousand EQ subscribers who have no only bought the original EQ, but have also paid for the 6 (or 7?) expansion packs that followed. Not to mention that the subscription fee has been increased from US8 to US12 recently. Blizzard is not publishing WoW for those who don't want to pay a monthly fee. They are doing it for those who will and the market proved that there ARE people who are willing to pay. If you don't want to pay, don't play. The end of the story. Can't believe that people are still arguing over this. Not as if MMORPG was born yesterday.

With that, the game may improve further with new releases, patches etc. > Blizzard is not publishing WoW for those who don't want to pay a > monthly fee. I think its a matter of preference on what type of games one like to play. Some like RPG/RTS etc, whilst some don't. I actually first played in a massively multiplayer game back in 1994. It cost about $20 a year to participate, plus I had to buy the game. Of course, it was not a computer game, but that's beside the point. -- Elizabeth D. If I want to keep playing with the same character, well, yeah, maybe cancelling the account for a month or two and losing said character would be rather hard to do. > Maybe you should be studying instead of screwing off playing video games? Maybe you should think before spewing nonsense back at me. School hadn't started when this post was written, and studying has absolutely nothing to do with a college budget.
