Did things scale so much in the past?

I thought things were broken but a number of items seem to scale, and
it doesn't seem conistent. It probably is, but not from the foggy side.
I know it is a bit to do with things like herilooms, partly flex and
other things. Not a problem once you figure it out.

My bankers are seeing things like
  http://www.wowhead.com/item=72986/heavy-windwool-bandage
it has a scale 96000 heals at 90, the bankers see 64.
This and a bucketload of other items.
But why? the bandage isn't useable until 85 ??
So , it didn't always do that, did it?

That plus auctioneer and other mods updated get really confused with
years break between data , had to mass delete the saveddata files and
still could not seem to get good data and estimates until I checked and
saw the wowhead sliders.

What with the bad data and no clue about the new items and poor
judgement based on the number I was seeing on the banker it made for
quite few kgold dropped, lost, thrown away for a while.
Barely 15k up for a week and mostly that is selling what old stuff is
'worth' more due to rarity. Vendoring whole bank tabs of stuff by
judgement or accident.
Not that I have been in auction much, leveling 4 mains mostly to avoid
having to look inside the emptying vaults.
10 Saronite swordbreakers , 8 titansteel destroyers, spellblades,
crushers most lvl 80 crafter gear not bad rounding out gear used to be
1-2k, not even worth the DE mats now, not worth giving to any new 80 ,
20 minutes in Hyjal and 200% better. Vendor.
I knew that would happen, just I have to step away for a while then
take a running jump to the vendor and just keep on clickclickclicking
through the tsunami of vendor anguish.

Actually it isn't that traumatic, only the covetous hindbrain is in
shock.
The lesson on the impermenance of real and virtual wealth, and stuff
in games as well, is a good one at Christmas :-)

Nope. My lvl1 AH basher (I have 2) sees my panda gems as +6 spirit/+3
stamina or something like that. Earlier it would have been red (wrong
class/too low level) if I remember right. but your lvl 85 sees the
bandage and other items with the right values.
I guess Blizzard did this as a quick workaround with this due to some
unexpected bugs or something. Or maybe they consider allowing gemming
heirlooms later on in the game which could be great since gems seems to
scale. Anyhow. It seems like the next expansion hides some neat
surprises like scaling up old raids and much more good stuff if the
rumors are right. :)

If you consider doing some AH bashing again once you have hit lvl 90
ande got the feeling of your farm you should consider tradeskillmaster
v2. Meanwhile you can check theunderminejournal.com for latest AH
suggestions, techniques, blogs etc..

Hmm, odd! Those shouldn't be scaling, enchants of all kinds should be
(mighty annoying when my enchanter is lvl 85, doing enchants for my
lvl 90 characters, and scratching my head trying to work out which is
the one they need - the lvl 90 ones show as *lower* numbers than the
old lvl 85 ones if you're lvl 85!), but I wasn't aware of bandages
doing that!

Would actually be a useful thing if they put it in fully for WoD,
resulting in actually useful numbers on bandages - on one alt doing
the ironman challenge (level with no gear, no talents among other
things), I noticed that I had over 800 health, and my only ways of
regenning health were 600 health over 24 sec food, or 161 health
bandage. What on earth use is a 161 health bandage ever going to be to
someone with 800+ health? And this was with *no* gear, your average
heirloomed person will have well over 1k, probably 1.5k plus....

For what it's worth, if you list stuff like that really cheap, the odd
person may buy it, especially if it requires lvl 78 not 80 - I tend to
buy really cheap stuff like that even when I know I'll replace it in
Hyjal - because hey, I'm bored of Hyjal, I might wanna hang out in
Icecrown or Storm Peaks for a change before going to the next
expansion's zones :-) I wouldn't spend a fortune, but 15g or so?
Probably would consider it. I'm quite possibly very unusual in that
though :-P

Ouch, I know that feeling whenever I pick up an old alt, sucks having
to vendor stuff that would've been good a few years back. If anything
has a good model though, it's worth trying to sell it for transmog
purposes - I paid 2k for a random lvl 70-ish BoE epic a while back
(think I was 85 at the time, couldn't solo the only raid which
contained the same model so grabbed the BoE), for example; matched my
transmog perfectly, you see! :-)

Lots, really confuses the bankers, so now I just run by the lvl

I did list every line and a few sold for like 200g but when you have
10 and the one up just keeps coming back, three tries then the lot
vendor. Not worth holding on to.
There are a lot of 77-79 ilvl 273 drops , leveling 4 chars, they do go
for 200-500 for pretty much the reason, even a couple of ilvl 300
useable by 77 went for a nice packet. So it is swings and roundabouts.
Really annoyed Hyjal goes all peaceful , I was farming and then,
crickets, and not the pokemon type.
Which reminds me. Seriously? they put Joust in the game as a daily?
Nothing changes much really:-)

Yeah , 'transmog' or something like that seemed to take some at 25g bid.
Good luck, I can't hold them forever on the offchance one may make 1-2k,
chances are only one or two from a set may ever go to fit a particular look.
I could always make them again, so could many others.
They just are not worth listing, or hawking endlessly on trade on the
off chance, and I am just not interested in transmog enough to see what
may be a fetching style.

I meant to reply but it got lost in Christmas, I was using Undermine
to check the prices until I built confidence again but I appreciate the
effort to suggest it.

I don't think I will be getting into AH for quite a while, apart from
selling levelling drops.
Levelling 4x 80-90 but even with guild xp (lvl 25 guild) , and account
xp gear, and guild banner, and rested, and profession xp, it still takes
a long time.
Maybe even weeks :-)
A least after the heavy armour has plowed through the crunchies know
what to avoid and where to grab the big powerups first.

Arms warrior died, didn't expect Nemesis to just keep following so far
and drew a whole circus on it. That and some ^%$#$% update prompt took
focus away at exactly the wrong time and it got hung up.
10 minutes later the Deathknight stood its ground and tanked Nemesis to
death.
10 minutes later the warlock , it has high IQ , just stepped through the
flamegate and played Joust for a while.
10 minutes later the druid having cleared out an exit route had fun
kiting it around to see how far it could go

Appropriate to the thread this scaling without some indication is really
starting to tick me off,
e.g.
heirloom chest enchantments that may or may not scale, have to send
mails back and forth saying what highs see on the stats.

I get about 20% of greens sell, but thats from 80+ zones
or ~40% if I can bother for 50-100g although I do have backlog becuase I
just can't be bothered posting.

Typically lvl 77 useable or so gives the buyer some use for 200-500g
depending just how desperately needed or impressive the stats on a piece
are.
One thing I noticed, or imagined. Running 4 through a new area in quick
succession I see a flurry of green drops early on then it tapers off
rapidly. This in addition to the usual quest rewards.
It doesn't seem random at all for the first 30% or so of a zone.. and
since the following 3 know whats coming up they don't grab the decent
drops so there are a lot more available to sell.

What are these 'dailies'? why daily when you can find a stack of mobs
and chew them up with a banner nearby get xp AND get drops and mats ?
My deathknight and warrior are running around in 3 pieces of XP cloth,
they look silly but they level quiet fast :-)

I am putting on around 3 levels a day since christmas, with lots of
rested on characters but thats still less than a level per day averaged
over 4. I am at 84-85 and have 2 days to gain 20 levels on the 4.

I don't think that will be happening , there is just so much fun a
person can take :-)

I could be faster, but I am stopping to level skills along the the way
with the zone appropriate mats, and it is more like work than a game if
you have to -try- or have to learn to 'play'.

My characters keep responding to the same icons in different ways. Why
is this character not ressing bozo who pulled ? oh, thats not a res
spell, it just looks veryveryvery similar. Mineminemine, now rush to
that next node over that chasm, cast flight formmmmmmmmmsplat, oh its a
warrior.
It must be comical to watch the slow 3 button masher oh so slowly
grinding , not using skills on mobs then die because the wrong macro is
firing.

Another thing is getting me ticked off at so many bugs.
Cata has been out for ages and yet doing the same thing over there
are just so many bugs still around. You probably would hardly notice a
couple a day but multiply it by 4 and moving quickly and they really
show up.

I think it varies a lot with server population and AH supply/demand -
on Horde, I never bother selling greens and find blues a struggle to
get rid of - tons of supply there, so it's hard to sell stuff. I've
been playing my Alliance alts lately (same server, but it has a huge
population bias towards Horde), and am quite happily selling greens
with half decent stats - because the supply is limited, and what's up
is all 100g plus, which I think ridiculous for levelling greens; so I
list at 10-20g and they sell easily!

On the flipside, I can easily sell cooked food on Horde, lots of
raiders wanting the buffs. Nobody's interested on Alliance (the last
big raiding guilds transferred off in free migration a couple of weeks
back...)

They really need to fix that; it should be that all levels of enchant
turn out the same stats on a low lvl but it varies wildly. I have to
go by what the materials are rather than what the numbers say, since
to my lvl 85 enchanter, Cataclysm enchants have higher numbers than
MoP ones... *big sigh*.

Oh yeah, to your original question about bandages; that came up on WoW
Insider the other day, healing potions are apparently the same - both
are currently bugged since the scaling enchants came in. Here's hoping
Blizz fix it soon, it's mighty annoying...

*** quest sparkles*** *** quest sparkles*** *** quest sparkles***

Is there any addon that allows post-it notes for items in the bank?
Storing and maintaining ingame emails with lists of real stats next to
the stacks of scrolls is painful, uses space and looks untidy.

*** quest sparkles*** *** quest sparkles*** *** quest sparkles***

I suppose I notice things more after jumping back in at the deep end.
While many other things I probably don't see I notice things don't work
the way I expect anymore.

Boiling frog syndrome , so many changes but over a long time people just
get used to them.
Some I like, the questing pointers, quest items highlighted , auto loot,
full loot on one gather, larger stacks.
Others not so much, like so many quests almost autoaccept and
disappearing though that may be an addon. I don't have an autaccept and
it doesn't always happen.

The old time wasting misdirections and forced excursions are still
in,the usual dothisthenthisthenthis rather than give a list of area
objectives, already killed DingBat on one alternate quest ? well you
have his left eyebrow fur, no need to go all the way back over the zone
again....oh wait..you need the right eyebrow as well.

Many elements of F2P to save time are showing also, getting there.

I isn't that I want 'press this button to win everything'
I quite happily ground out a couple of levels on deathwings fall, mobs
spawn very fast and with xp bonus and rested 6-8k a mob it is only
300-400 kills per level. 6 or so a minute it only takes a couple of
hours of mind less grinding . Lots of drops and mats though.
And it suits my incompetent 3 button never-learn-to-play-like-a-pro style.

It shows how all those trips back and forth eat into the time.
50k for the quest handin then come back? or grind 200k in the same time.
This is how I think the drop rates aren't entirely random initially into
a zone.
Not saying it is deliberate and it isn't extreme, maybe just some
artefact of the algorithm of rewards vs level and xp.
If you want to stress test something give it to a bored primate :-)

Still, I like the game has the -option- of grinding like a bot if you
want, ***provided*** the level appropriate grind areas keep happening.

That'd be a good idea! I don't know of one but it'd be rather handy
for you I think.

I hadn't realised it was so long since you'd been playing till very
recently, you seem to have been posting all along!

Auto accepting usually comes from quests which auto popup as followups
to other quests or on kiling a mob (ie, saves you walking aaalllll the
way back to the questgiver for the followup); it auto accepts so you
don't accidentally decline. Shouldn't disappear though, should have a
clickable popup bit in the quest objectives window, possibly an addon
is interfering (occasionally the clickable bit disappears for me, but
it's rare).

Hmm, thought those were mostly gone in recent content, I notice them
way more in Outland and Northrend than anywhere else now.

I always find questing better than grinding, but then I *like*
questing, I guess not everyone does!

It was a joke, many things seem funny in my head.
Not so funny in text :-)
My basic attitude is the Universe is pretty much a bad joke, and I live
in the Universe soooo......

[ That is not so much a joke , or more of a meta joke.
Most of what we think important is the virtual world of mad primates
imagining who see what we want to see amd are very very good at ignoring
herds of elephants. Maybe it is evolutionary, so much information in the
world we learned to ignore what is not immediately relevant.

but that is getting philosophical and thats no fun,or is it? :-) ]

I know, but it is not fast enough for me right now.
The game should change to service me, I insist.

[that is a joke, I don't expect them to do it, griping is also a way to
explore alternatives ]

I keep tabs on the game, I was trying to slot some time since november
2012 so just keeping up for 'the big effort ' :-)
Comments were mostly general game play and strategy, and one of my
minor super powers is finding things, keys, mobiles, information :-)

It is almost a freetoplay meta game in itself.

That could be it , just seeing sooo many repeated so quickly.

I meant some games have something like a heroes board of things to
tick off in this zone and do them all in whatever order you want.
Like seeing a questlog page with all available quests with objectives
and suggested levels. In some pretty much every quest is in effect a
daily. Of course a change like that would break many things in Wow as it
is now.

Like the 'one with the earth' where you burrow to the target,
3 times I popped and killed the target,
'oh DOH, not again'
then had to complete the quest that said kill the target, and kill it again.
Just mad monkey griping :-)

I like questing as well for a change. It is pleasant to get pointed to
an area
where I find fresh large groups of grindable mobs who don't know the
predator is coming.
:-)
I can't really do instance because I have to stop at the drop of a hat
and that wouldn't be fair to others, I try and do the right thing even
when nothing is forcing me.
Mindless grinding is emminently interuptable, and I actually like
watching the progress bar slowly creeping up through sheer 'hard work'.
Now if only Wow had a softcap lvl 91 = 10,000 mobs ground out lvl 92
=20,000 etc, I would be a legend, a god-king emperor of the (pixellated)
Universe :-)
