I was lucky - it only took 26 tries, at a 2% drop rate. For the past several months, I've been trying to solo Tempest Keep's Kael'thas Sunstrider each week, for the Ashes of Alar mount. I'd got the run down to about 30 minutes, including traveling there. I now have a very pretty ride (which is nowhere near as rare as it used to be), and an extra half hour of free time each week. pt

According to the Armory I'm on 10 kills (plus one on my druid), really should do more but I ran out of steam after finlly getting the last pet from that place. I'll go back sometime though, it's a beautiful mount. You've got it down way faster than me, although I still use the tactic of dragging the mobs all around the place instead of fighting them all in one room (my dps isn't really high enough for that; it is not fun having more than 2 of them CC'ing me at the same time....), so my record for the Kael fight itself is about 13 and a half minutes, and that's after clearing the entire raid out first (ok, I only need to clear half of it but hey, more chance at pets!). Void Reaver sucks if you're a caster lacking many instant spells btw, that one's 3.5 minutes on a good day.... did him in under 1 minute when I took my druid there, sheesh!

All rodents and crawlies must have a 3-team of cats Aren't there laws against this sort of thing?

I adapted a strat from Wowhead. Basically, it involves separating the four adds around Kael so you can take them on one by one; they all have cc abilities which in combination can be deadly. I was after the mount only, not pets. I'd clear trash to the Alar room, kill the trash there, then clear up to Kael's room. There I'd clear the trash, then pull the main event, and run down to near the entrance. Add #1 turns up a couple minutes later, an easy kill, but you have to make sure his knockback does not send you through the entrance. I'd then move up a little, kill Add #2 (fear cc) when he turned up, then run up (with a speed potion) to the corridor from Alar's room to Kael's. There I'd kill the caster add (who has a very nasty disorientate). This took a PvP trinket to break, and by working in the tight corridor, her knock back didn't move me far. After killing her, the 4th add shows up, with a 1 minute long set of random stuns. I'd move up to just outside Kaels room, wait till the debuff was nearly gone, and kill him. Run down to where the caster died, and hide to force the legendary weapons that turn up to come close. Killed them, waited near the dead caster. At this point, all four adds revive, and run to attack you. If you've done everything right, they're separated enough that they turn up one by one, not all at once. You kill them as they turn up. Run up to just outside Kael's room. He turns up, burn him down to under 50%, then he returns to his room for a minute, which lets you heal up. He comes back, kill him, profit. pt

They don't have to be actual rares, just cageable rare quality or just an useful combination of powers for your own. There is always a use for something that WON'T kill a rare that turns up. I have a killer rabbit. I call it Miss Fluffy ,or as it is known to its opponentd Aaarrrgggghh-gurgle-croak , only the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch can defeat it.

That's basically the tactic I used, except I'd take add number 4 to another room, usually the warlock-boss's room (forget her name). Takes a while, especially as I never remember to pick up a pvp trinket so the disorientate is annoying! Also I've learned through experience that the caster can knockback you through a wall... fortunately you land in A'lar's room but it kinda messes up the strategy a bit, since you've got the wrong mobs to handle! I also tend to equip the legendary staff (with using it macroed to a few abilities); doesn't appear to help much against the adds but I *think* it makes a difference against Kael himself. Doesn't help my dps any, though!

I thought it is only a 1% drop rate at 1% it is a 23 % chance of success within 26 tries so you were fortunate. at 2% it is a 41 % chance of success within 26 tries so you were fortunate. I run either 4 or 5 toons a week for the Ashes. Been doing it for about 7 weeks now. I wish I was as fortunate as you. You should ride that mount everywhere for a while. You ask what to do now. If you don't have the mount from the Vault in Winterspring you might want ot give that a go. You get 4 chances per run because there are 4 bosses that can drop it. The cold boss can be rough if not burned down due to stacks piling up on you. Orion

The hunters have to keep their bow and hide behind the pillar so as not to get MCed by Kael. The pet gets him to 50% and then the fun starts when he runs to show us what real power is - BLAH! Not sure if I could give it a go with any of the other toons I have but if I keep missing the mount I am probably going to get impatient and bring more in each week. Back when I was running Attuman it was 12 toons a week for about 3 months before the mount dropped. Orion
