I have set up a server with Q3offline for a friend and me. Can I increase the download speed of maps that download automatically? TIA

If you mean you want a server that is online but NOT a public server, yes. But it will be a dedicated server, not a listen server and you will need a separate box. Just add "+set dedicated 1", instead of dedicated 2, (without quotes.) If this doesn't make any sense as I suspect, see the tutorial you already have in start/quake iii arena/quake iii arena help system/dedicated server information. You can speed up the transfer of maps by ftp'ing them to a host site and having your friend connect to that and download them from the ftp host to his computer. If you need more info, remember google is your friend. There is still plenty of server info out there you can access.

We are playing Q3 on the internet and, although no one ever connects, I think the games we make are open.. I think they report to the master server. I have 5M/512k speed and he has 3M/256k speed. We are alternating using Q3offline and each being the server. When we send to each other the receiver reports a transfer speed of 12K I have Googled for this many times. The closest I have found is this command. set sv_dl_maxRate "5000" The only trouble is that this is not a command on the Q3offline list. Q3offline shows the server config file that it makes, but if we add that line to the config nothing happens and it goes away after the game. Thanks

I'll see if I can come up with how that is capped. It may just be capped at that rate period.

Sv_maxrate = is the serverside command for the /rate command clients use to download or connection speed in general :). Using it every day on my server... most server have this set to 8-9000 for good play.
