The type of monitor used should not be an issue - although I would suggest
that making modifications to the cfg file might!  lol

When I had a similar problem, it was suggested to me that I
 - clean the drive of Q3 files
 - reinstall from the cd
 - Install 1.32 update
 - update PB (either way -
http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=dl-q3a.php or connect to a server
with PB and allow it to update itself)
 - NOW you can add maps, make changes etc...

It worked for me - good luck.
