Making new Q2 maps?

I was thinking about making some new maps for Quake2. I have already
downloaded Quark and its a very powerful program but I can't figure out how
to save an actual map so that I can use it in Q2?

I just thought if I saved it as a .pak file that I would be able to use it
in Q2 - but so far that doesn't seem to be happening!

Rose a .pak file is just a container. It is basically a .zip file which
is not packed. You can open it with winzip and other programs. This is
just to be able to put together packages which you can then distribute.
For example you can put some models in there or more than one map. The
filetype of a quake map is .bsp

I don't know your exact problem. But if you just want to test something
make a .bsp file. (Don't forget to vis the .map file.) and put the .bsp
file into your ../quake2/baseq2/maps folder. If it does not exist create it.

After that you can go to the quake console and write "/map mymap.bsp"
maybe you could cut the .bsp like "/map mymap"

It's a zip file in Quake 3, but in Q2 it uses its own proprietary format.
Google for PakExplorer if you need a way to edit Q2's pak files!
