Quake 2 wep's?

Does anyone know why id have chosen to put the quake 2 weps to one
side of the screen. Personally after playing a few TC's with weps not
in the middle of the screen I'm not to keen on this as it make it hard
to aim. Weps on the side of the screen are really bad as they obscure
your view properly and in deathmatch are a bit of a hinderence. I use
the gun graphic to line up my opponents and have done since doom 1
everyone's gotten used to this so why has id changed it. Having the
weps on the side is very awkward. If id are having the weps here which
it looks like they are does anyone know if there will be an option to
put them into the middle of the screen. I know that the artists have
spent time doing the models and artwork for the weps but i think a lot
of players would prefer to have the weps in the middle... What does
everyone think?

I agree with what was written here-- at first look it would appear that
an off-center weapon will interfere with certain gameplay features, and
make aiming difficult (until one accommodates). Still, it does look
cool, but I hope that a center weapon is still an option.

Well, when I play Quake, I have FOV set to 110 and NO weapon is showing, =
but I have crosshair turned on. The accuracy of the fire relative to the =
crosshair is much better when FOV is higher than 90 with or w/o a weapon =
shown onscreen. So you really don't need the weapon in front of you or =
there at all, actually. Just turn on the crosshair and turn up FOV.

This never bothered me in games like Duke3d, as long as I can turn on
a cross hair. You need the cross hair anyway, especially for aiming
up. I think the side screen weapons are meant to give a better view of
what's in front. However, they should try to keep the weapon size
small just for peripheral visions sake.

Someone holding a pistol with twohands :)
