HELP! STUCK IN WIND TUNNELS

I know this is beneath you all, but still: I'm stuck in the Wind Tunnel
room with that
well-like opening that lofts you up and down when you jump on it. I've
killed everything that moves and found the secret room that zaps you to
the ledge. I've walked along the ledge and gotten the damn rockets.
Now what?

This is connected to the other room with its closed tunnel (holding a
box of nails), a closed opening to jump down, and a pond that has
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING underwater.

I've been scouring both rooms and the corridor, shooting at anything
remotely interesting, and can't find a single damn way out. Any
suggestions? Thanking you in advance.

Jeff--

That, uh, doesn't help. It's probably a different room. Even if I
had an enviro suit it wouldn't help. I'm in a place with no visible exits to
other places, no apparent ways to open tunnels that are sealed...Plus, to
prove I'm not nuts, read Holger's similar heartrending plaint.
        Thanks for trying, though...

I think I know where you are. In the room you described just above (with the
closed wind tunnel, pond and closed downward opening) is a switch - I don't
see how you can miss it. It's near the closed wind tunnel, very big with
that stylised letter Q on it. Hit it (just walk into it, it's not a
shootable switch) and the bars which seal the opening that you jump down
will open up. Jump down there and you're on your way.

If that's too hard to understand. I recoarded a NOTARGET demo of the entire
level. You can find it at http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~alomac/ (it's the
file called w2.dem) Download the file, put it in your \quake\id1\ folder
then, run Quake and from the console type PLAYDEMO W2

Cheers,
Adam.

Adam--

You've got the place right, but I've already pressed that big "Q" button.
Whatever happened when I first did that, has happened. It's now dead, and the
well it should have opened (right next to it, up a couple steps) remains
barred. Is it possible to run into a dead end (and get trapped there) in Quake
I? I played it once and never had this problem. Still struggling...

Well, if you've hit the switch, yet the well remains barrred, then there's
some sort of glitch in Quake. I've never seen something like this before,
but then I don't play Quake all that much.

Do you have a game saved from back before you opened the switch? If so load
it up and try again. It may also be worth upgrading your version of Quake to
a newer release. (Version 1.0.6 is the most recent I know of, the patch can
be dowloaded from id for free) though this won't be worthwhile in this
situation if (a) you're running GLQuake, or (b) don't have one of those
saved games handy.

If all else fails, just use the NOCLIP cheat command to float through the
bars. It may be cheating, but you're more than justified since you're only
using it to counteract a screw-up in the game itself.

Cheers,
Adam.
