Hello guys ! Ok, we know that the game-once-called-Quake supports the Verite from Rendition. But what about the cards from Creative Labs and #9 that use Rendition-chips too ? Are they compatible ? Cards that have the same chip can exhibit quite different levels of performance (e.g. some current S3-based cards, with the *same* S3 chip model number.) While the Verite chip may guarantee compatibility on some level, the other on-board electronics will also factor into the performance picture. --Lance.

Last I heard the CL card uses CL's library for 3D Blaster so games that run on the older card, Glint chip I think, will work with the new one and vice-versa. I don't believe that it is directly compatible with Renditions board and from what I hear same goes for #9's card. They have made a few boards for developers to play around with and from the best of my knowledge the other boards, CL 3D Blaster and #9 card, aren't directly compatible with the Rendition developer board. Does the new Diamond Edge card have the Verite chip? Also, has anyone else heard rumors that some of these cards will come bundled with a copy of Quake?

This card is already available and comes bundled with I think it is NASCAR
racing or some other cheezy game. This board uses the Nvidia chipset. It
is inferior to the Verite chipset and the REAL3D chipset by
Lockheed&Martin. I feel that these two chipsets are currently the leaders
of the pack from the technical data I have come across. The Nvidia chip
does have compatibility with the PC versions of SEGA SATURN games (I
believe it is the only chipset that will be compatible with these
games...stupid idea).

What most developers are doing today to support the chip is writing their programs to support CL's 3D library which currently runs on their VL-bus 3D card using (I believe) the Glint chip and for which CL is making their new card compatible. So anything written for their old card should work on their new card, if you don't believe me ask someone there. #9 are farther along with their product but I haven't asked too many questions about it so I don't know all that much about it. Just because all the boards use the same chip doesn't mean that they are all directly compatible (although it would be nice if they were). Different ways of implementing the chip on the board can cause new drivers to be needed. Right - lets staighten this issue out. Rendition make the Verite chip. They are not making any BOARDs themselves. Creative Labs are releasing 2 versions of the 3D Blaster - one (out now) for the VLB based machines, and a PCI version available in March. The VLB version DOES NOT support rendition's chip in anyway - it uses the 3D Labs Glint (GIGI) chip as it's core. However, the PCI version of the 3D Blaster will have the Verite chip on it. This was officially announced on both Renditions and Creative Labs Web Pages. Bear in mind the comments made by Jay Wilbur concerning the Verite. Quake will run upto 30% better using the Rendition chip "It's own premier platform for Quake." Various other card makers are also going to use the Verite chip on their card, such as Number 9.

I haven't heard anything about Number 9's 3d card yet. Does anybody know if it's gonna blow away the others or just be another one to make the confusion worse. JP

ATI announced their 3D chipset some time ago. The press release is already on their web site. That, and the 3DFX's Voodo, from what I hear are _really_ the cream of the crop.
