Mr XL, the second Danish oldbie to become a father. Which Dane will be next?

And speaking of Danes, I also saw a Danish movie called "I Kina spiser de hunde", which I actually liked a
lot. Still, Danish is a strange language.

I think it means "In China eten ze honden". What does "de" mean? The or they? And did the subtitles I
used suck or is Danish a language where you need a whole lot of words to describe simple things? For
instance, several long sentences of Harald talking to Vuk were translated as "Shut up, Puk!"

There's a time and space constraint in subtitles. So they tend to come
up with shortened alternatives. Something that would be best translated
as "For once keep your big mouth shut, Puk!" could become just "Shut up,
Puk!". If the big mouth isn't a plot point or has any importance in the
rest of the story this isn't a problem.

Alternatively you could just learn Danish.

Well, in this case it was more like:

"Sut mine rådne løg! Knep! Tudefjæs!! Spasser!! Søslange! Du ligner en ged og du lugter af tis!
Du er en kaempe bunke lorte lort! Du lugter af gammel havmĂĄge fisse! Jeg kneppede din mor igĂĄr!
Knækbrød! Smørrebrød!!!"

being subtitles as:

"Shut up, Puk!"

With "Shut up, Puck!" getting way too much screen time.

Well, honestly, how would they translate a word like gammel? It just
can't be done.

Intertran makes this out of it:

Sut mine rådne onions! Knep! Tudefjæs!! Spasser!! Søslange! You
featuring a goat and you smell from wee! You are a kaempe heap shit
shit! You smell from aged havmĂĄge fisse! I kneppede your mother
yesterday! Knækbrød! Smørrebrød!!!

So gammel means old? That can't be right.

Maybe gammel is just gammel? I like gammel things. For instance, the stairs in this sort of building thing
I live in is very gammel. My head is quite gammel as well. But perhaps for a proper translation we need
our resident Danes. Where are Kasper, Sean and Esben when you need them?

What do you need?

Actually, it's a bit spooky to think about, that Sean, Esben and I
live within a few km of each other. That must surely be a sign of some
sort of apocalypse.

I am SO this century.

That is, if I would get a dog.

Who says 21st century is actually nonexistent? Maybe the dog *is* real
and ran away, but Pixel would feel silly looking for the dog and
shouting "21st century! Here boy!".

Great idea. By the time you'll be done you will realize that 40 years
