I'm having problems getting the SFX working. The music is happening. I
have the MS-Windows Sound System. Has anyone got this working, know about
a fix ... ?

someone else i knwo has this same problem/setup
and they cant change the IRQ value to something else
dunnoo...
i think they really do need to make a port for a jag
so that we can all have one machine that it will
definitely work on

The Windows Sound System uses EMM386 for its Sound Blaster emulation mode. 
DOOM uses it own super special secret 386 extender and bypasses EMM386
altogether.  Music is accomplished via AdLib emulation which doesn't need
EMM386 to happen.

Until ID makes a special patch for WSS, those of us who use that card are
stuck listening to just the music.
