I love Diablo, can't get enough of it. But being sensitive to excessive mouse use, I'm starting to suffer from the effects of too much clicking. To the folks at Blizzard, if you could modify the game to help reduce the use of unnecessary mouse clicks, I'd appreciate it. For instance, in town I hate the tiny scroll bars when conversing with the blacksmith, witch, etc.. The up/down buttons are very tiny, and I hate having to repeatedly click on them to scroll down the list. I want them to work like other scroll bars where I can click and hold the mouse button and the lists of items will automatically scroll. Think your programmers can handle this? Also, I'm unfamiliar with the gamepads out on the market now. Can I play Diablo with some of the newer pads? I'd like to use a little joystick on a pad to control everything, and program the extra buttons to bring up my speedbook, inventory, etc.. Anybody know if this is possible? Later ya'll... Allen

Just FYI, you can use the arrow keys on your keyboard for scrolling
through lists. You can also use the ENTER key to select items you wish
to purchase. You don't need to use your mouse at all when interacting
with people in the town. I hope this helps you out.

As far as I'm converned, the mouse has much more potential to caouse CTS than the keyboard does. Part of the problem is that I have fairly big hands -- my palm doesn't rest on the bump of a microsoft mouse like some other people's do. My final solution was twofold: first, I use the keyboard for everything I can (arrow keys for scrolling, etc.) and second, I went to Computer City and played with every mouse they had to find the one that I felt I could use without eventually suffering any hand/wrist pain. This ended up being the little logitech two-button mouse as it's the smallest, thinnest mouse I could find. This has mostly to do with how I hold a mouse, so YMMV. I've even tried various trackballs -- the bigger ones are a pain for game playing, and the trackman marble has caused me more problems than anything at all. Of course the best solution is just to not use the computer or the mouse for that long, but Diablo _is_ terribly addictive :). -Sean

I am using a Gravis GamePad Pro (10 buttons + 4 on control pad = 14
buttons total). It's real easy to program for keyboard emulation in
windows (includes software), and I use it instead of the keyboard for my
left hand. Only problem is I don't think you can emulate mouse movements
with keyboard commands, so the mouse is still necessary.

Well you could always use the arrows keys on your keyboard, and the page up
and page down keys.

I moved from a logitech 3button mouse to a Trackman Marble, and have had excellant results. I have a fair amount of cps (I generally wear a wrist brace any extensive typing or mouse-use), and using a standard mouse all day at work was really bothering me. Since I've moved to the marble, my wrists bother me substantially less; my arm stays relativly motionless & I just use my thumb. I even play a pretty good game of Quake using it. ==== Remove the '*' from my email address to reply.

If you hold down the mouse button, the guy keeps moving... Just click, hold, till you get to the store, then click again to start talking.

Agree 100%!
The Trackman Marble needs a little getting used to but then it is awesome.
Since you need not move your hand/arm/mouse I tend to position much more
quickly and precise. Also it does not hurt your hand if you use it four hours.
Another good point about it (for playing) is that you can do a click orgy without
changing the mouse position accidentally.
Having a well-trained thumb (piano player) helps 'though.

I had mild pain with my index finger (too much mouse button clicking). I moved to a Kensington Trackball. Seems much better. Being able to click with the thumb helps a lot. It has four buttons that you can program in very great detail using their software drivers. Also doing a chord with the 2 bottom buttons at the same time is like another 5th button. BE WARNED, the Kensington driver is a problem in some DirectX games. It works fine in Diablo but Emporer of the Fading Suns would completely hang my system. An easy work around is to just switch to a standard mouse driver and reboot. This completely solved the DirectX conflict problem but switching drivers is a pain. The very best wrist rests I have found are made by Case Logic my CompUSA had them. They are pretty cheap and have 2 liquid gel filled tubes inside along their lenth. At first they didn't provide enough support, some rubber bands fixed that problem easy enough. Hope this helps, Nathan

My problem ended up being that the top of my wrist ended up aching horribly after using the Trackman Marble for more than a little while. I really blame this and many of my other mouse problems on my long fingers (I'm kinda tall and thin) so my hands just don't sit right on most mice. I used the Trackman Marble daily for a few months before I realized that the my wrist ache was just getting worse. Since I switched, I've had no problems. I spent 7 hours playing Diablo a few weeks ago with the mouse I have now and didn't experience any discomfort. Oh well, find what works for you and stay with it :). -Sean

I'm the guy that started this thread. After reading lots of responses to my question, I took the advice of several users and went out and spent some money this weekend. I bought a Logitech Marble Trackman and a Gravis Game Pad Pro. The Marble Trackman is VERY comfortable for right handed mouse operations, and the Gravis Game Pad Pro is great for programming keyboard commands and using it with my left hand. I also rearranged the furniture in my study, moving the futon close to the computer desk so I can now recline and comfortably play Diablo all day long without any discomfort. Thanks for the suggestions everybody! Allen "Telecaster"

I'm using it now and I think it's great. I just found it strange that everyone was talking about trackballs only....
