This resolution I stumbled accross by comparing the files installed
with Generals vs Zero Hour. It fixed this problem for me and It
appears that my system config is very similar to all of those with the
Nvidea gfource series or ATI9xxx series video cards.

Locate the Options.ini file located inside

"C:\Documents and Settings\(Current User)\My Documents\Command and
Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data".

Open this file with notepad.

Locate these three lines and make them look just like these. If they
do not exsist then add them to the end:

ExtraAnimations = no
FirewallBehavior = 1
SendDelay = yes

The ExtraAnimations - fix the lag from happening when the game gets
loaded with armys causing lots of lag and very choppy graphics in
multiplayer skirmish not online

Firewall and Senddelay both assisted in the lag time when playing
online forcing the game to lose data sync and ending the game.

Let me know if this works for you.
