W Debianie/Łubuntu jest coś jak /etc/network/interfaces i tam sobie możesz IP, bramę i adresy serwerów DNS skonfigurować. man 5 interfaces /etc/resolv.conf nie jest konieczny w teorii, w praktyce już częściej. W skrócie - możesz polegać wyłącznie na wpisach w /etc/hosts. man 5 nsswitch.conf J.
