Poszedłbym drogą generyków, czyli jakoś tak:

unit z corem:

  ICoreMain = interface
    function CoreConnection : ICoreConnection<ICoreMain>;
  end;

unit z toolem:

  ICoreConnection<I> = interface
    function CoreMain : I;
  end;
