DGFT values in Falcon 3.0d

Can someone explain what the dogfighting values in the pilots' records
signify? I had a wingman shoot down a slew of planes and return safely.
His DGFT level was set to 5/0. Does this mean 5 planes shot down with
him never shot down?

Thanks.

According to the manual p.26, the first number is the current ability of
the pilot and the second is the max ability of the pilot.

I have seen wierd numbers like that also, including a 5/0 on a very good
pilot. Think it may be fatigue...

One thing that is very important to know about in falcon is that fact
that the pilots LEARN from experience. That means that pilot selection
is very important to the success of a campaign or mission.

My strategy has lately been to put the rookie in lead, so that I-Human
can fly him/her, and put somebody with *some* experience on 1st wing,
and put the smartest dude/chick on 2nd where he/she/it is on his/her/its
own. But watch that fatigue factor. Maybe the program could use a good
X-rated R&R module 8^0

IOW, I don't know what they mean.
