What would YOU want to see in a website that is made specifically for gamers? (NOT an ad)

So, last night IGN banned me for using a four letter word in thier forums.
In all fiariness, they will UN-ban me tonight at the same time i was banned
last night, but regardless, this ban over something as trivial as a curse
word got me thinking...

What do most gamers want in a website?
What if someone made a site explicitly for gamers, cutting out the idea of
paid reviews (which some people suspect a site like ign actually does.

What if someone made a community that was for gamers to speak their minds
and discuss reviews that were written like thier friends would review a game
(namely truthfully and with more passion than ign.)...

What sort of features would the best site have, in your opinion.
just curious to see how close the all mightly ign actually comes to getting
what we all want :-)

Well ign lost a customer when they asked me for money to sign up. There are
plenty of decent sites out there that offer free info

I run a gaming site (www.game3.co.uk) for the gamecube so I hope that I know
what people want.
I think that most people want a site that has good reviews of every game, in
depth reviews as well as a quick summary at the bottom, scoring the game is
also important to know if it is worth reading in depth. Up to date news is
also important, but for people to trust it you need to have a good
reputation for accuracy, rumours are fine as long as they turn out to be
accurate otherwise you won't be trusted.

If you are a multiplatform site it is also important to have different
reviews for each platform, but not to flame the other platform. Free is also
a big factor for most people, I know that it means ads but most people don't
mind really (when compared to subscribing). Personally I would like to see
sites provide all content with ads (possible exception of large media files)
for free with a cheap sunscription available to remove al ads. By cheap I
mean <$5 per year which is farf more than an advertising would generate
anyway.

That's why I only read www.gamesdomain.com Review's . Might not be the best

I'd love a gaming site modelled after Slashdot (ww.slashdot.org). The
great thing about Slashdot is that the boundary between the article
and the discussion is virtually nonexistent. You learn just as much
by reading people's thoughts as you do the article itself. Plus, you
have a wide variety of articles posted (well, they all have tech/geek
undertones, but you know what I mean).

Have you seen gamerankings.com? It does a very nice job of surveying
the "mainstream" reviews of a game and providing a place for users to
comment.

I would like a site that has forums that are free from four letter

1) An open, easy-to-use, 100% uncensored forum.
2) NO need to register with the site to access 'hidden' features.
3) Competitions to win games and stuff!
4) News/rumours about upcoming games
5) Very easy and encouraging for contributors to, um, contribute.

A brief description of the game, plus "offical" reviews and reviews by
gamers. Also release dates for different countries. Cheats and
walkthroughs and hints would be nice too. The website have to be fast,
with clear layout. News and rumours. Oh, and alternate game
recommandations with the game reviews would be nice, plus links to various
(reliable) online shops worldwide would be nice.

Having various e-mail lists availible would be a plus too.

Besides the reviews and other stuff I want working(!) download links for the
latest patches for games that don๏ฟฝt lead to one of the slow
pay-to-download-faster or pay-to-download servers. And there should be at
least one working alternate link...
