Hi, I've got 2 weeks vacation and I'm havingan outcast problem. I do not know if it is directx 8 related or not, game plays just fine until I get on the twon-ha, then he does not want go move! I can jump with the twon-ha but thats it. I've tried the latest patch but then I cant even run the game, any help would be appreciated, please let me know... - Chris ch...@atgsource.com

I find that if I turn around, and keep pressing forward, I'll usually find a direction in which I can move; if not, a jump or two will get me moving. Also, regarding the patch: this was giving me fits myself. You installed the game first, then installed the latest patch, and then it would complain about not finding "loader.icd", right? Here's what you have to do after applying the patch: copy the following four files from "C:\Program Files\Infogrames\Outcast" into the "oc" subdirectory, overwriting the older versions that are already there: CLCD32.DLL DPLAYERX.DLL DRVMGT.DLL LOADER.ICD Once you do that, it should start fine. I found this out by trial and error; I haven't seen anyone else report anything like this... -- *** Andrew Liebeskind ************************** Hello, small mammal. *** * "Guess kids these days just can't tell their gravity from their * * rotating frame of reference." -- _Consider Phlebas_, Iain M. Something like this happened to me a couple of times. The twon-ha would be stuck standing on one foot. I could rotate the twon-ha around, but no other type of movement. I killed the program and started again (having not saved for a long time, too) and it was fixed.

I'm convinced it's some kind of internal race condition or memory garbage bug and somehow, rigs with faster framerates are more susceptible to it. One way I dealt with it was to turn additional graphic effects (fog) on. I heard someone else say they fixed it by upping the resolution. Somehow, putting more load on the CPU makes the bug less likely to happen. Another thing that makes me think this is timing related is that no one seemed to hit in the first few months after release but then more and more people started reporting it (presumably as the average quality of hardware out there got better.) Of course, the last resort is to walk. The Twon-ha is just for convenience and you won't be blocked or miss out on any plot because of an inability to ride it. But it's frustrating, both because the maps are so big and because it was so much fun charging down the streets of Okriana, watching the soldiers eat my dust and the smelly beast spraying Twonha-snot all over the pathetic citizens.
