I can't get Ultima Underworld to use my Thunderboard for speech. I just got off the phone with Origin's customer support. The woman on the line was very helpful, and knew her stuff pretty well, but no solution. I suspect there is nothing I can do, but I thought I'd give the net a try. At the end of the UW installation, it told me that I needed to run UWSOUND to configure the game to my sound card's IRQ, Base address, and DMA. No problem I thought. (My Thunderboard was configured at IRQ 5) Well, when I ran UWSOUND it said it was using a soundblaster for music, and said it was found. It then says it is using a soundblaster for speech, but after about a second of trying it says not found. I've tried IRQ's 2,3,5, and 7 to no avail. I've also tried changing the base I/O address, but no help. If I run UW like this, the introduction gives me a picture of the blue guy. His mouth is moving, but he's not making any noise. Origin's customer support suggested I load my mouse driver in low memory. This didn't help. Origin said that they have had about 4 callers with this problem, and they think it might only occur with an old version of the thunderboard. (one without a rev. number) That is where I stand right now. So has anyone had this problem and solved it? I'd really like to have the speech, but right now I'm playing it configured without the speech option. By the way, the U7 demo from ulowell also doesn't work properly. I get about 0.1 seconds of speech, and then nothing. -- Steve Strazdus sstr...@sedona.intel.com
