I have followed this thread for sometime now. I too have a Sony Betamax
tape machine, a "Super Beta" to be specific. It is 12 years old now and
works perfectly, never having been worked on. I also own several Sony VHS
machines, as well as 2 8mm decks (one hi-8) and to top it all off, a
Pioneer laserdisc player.

The beta machine is w/o doubt the best of the bunch. Except for the price
diffferential, I could never figure out why someone would prefer a VHS
(even one by Sony) over a betamax. In this regard, the comparison between
Apple and Wintel is appropriate.
